Graves Family Campground Introduce
Welcome, fellow Michiganders, to your detailed guide on Graves Family Campground, a well-known camping destination nestled in Brooklyn, Michigan. For those seeking a convenient base for events at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) or simply a family-friendly camping experience in the heart of the Irish Hills, Graves Family Campground offers a unique blend of accessibility and rustic charm. This article will provide a comprehensive overview of the campground, highlighting its services, key features, and what makes it a suitable choice for locals looking to enjoy Michigan's vibrant outdoor scene.
Michigan is a state that truly embraces the outdoors, offering a diverse array of camping experiences, from serene wilderness sites to lively, event-focused grounds. Graves Family Campground fits into this landscape by catering particularly to those attending major events, especially the thrilling NASCAR races at MIS. While it provides essential amenities, it maintains a more traditional, "dry camping" feel for many sites, appealing to campers who appreciate a back-to-basics approach with the added convenience of being close to the action.
Customer reviews offer valuable insights into the realities of camping at Graves Family Campground. Many appreciate the "quiet time was well observed" and that "the facilities were very clean and well maintained." The absence of an "additional fee for showers" is a definite plus, indicating a value-driven approach to amenities. The presence of "security patrols every evening" and "trash was picked up at each site" highlights a commitment to safety and cleanliness, which are crucial for a positive camping experience.
However, some practical considerations for campers are frequently mentioned. The campground can experience long waits at its single dump station, with one reviewer noting a "wait in line for an hour to dump our tanks." This suggests that planning your departure carefully or utilizing external services might be beneficial for those with full tanks. Another recurring piece of advice is to "bring plenty of leveling boards" as "most sites with electric are very sloped." This is a critical tip for RV and trailer owners to ensure a comfortable and stable setup.
While the campground is described as "family campground" and "dog friendly," some mixed reviews exist regarding noise levels, particularly during peak event times. One reviewer expressed frustration with "loud music" that "goes all day and night," stating, "Not coming here again." This contrast in experiences suggests that the atmosphere can vary significantly depending on the event and individual expectations regarding noise. Despite this, positive aspects like the playground and volleyball court (though the latter's maintenance was questioned) contribute to its family appeal.
For those attending events at MIS, the "shuttle service to the track" is a convenient feature, though some visitors experienced delays, waiting "upwards of 30 min to get to the track and 45-60 min to return the day of the NASCAR race." Planning accordingly for these potential wait times is advisable.
Understanding these facets of Graves Family Campground will help Michiganders determine if it aligns with their camping preferences, especially if their visit coincides with a major event at the Michigan International Speedway.

I would have given a 5 star rating but we had to wait in line for an hour to dump our tanks. For the size of this facility one would think they’d have more than 1 dump station. It’s dry camping with the bonus of having 30/50 amp service available. There are many sites with no service that go for a lower rate.Bring plenty of leveling boards. Most sites with electric are very sloped.Quiet time was well observed and the facilities were very clean and well maintained. There’s no additional fee for showers.I observed security patrols every evening and trash was picked up at each site.Shuttle service to the track was very slow so plan accordingly. We waited upwards of 30 min to get to the track and 45-60 min to return the day of the NASCAR race. They are dog friendly and have a playground and volleyball court. The volleyball court was not maintained very well.I would return to this area but in the future I’d try to get into a campground closer to the track.
Aug 20, 2024 · Dottie GuerrasioIf I wanted a concert I would have paid for tickets. Family campground. No real rules. Midnight quiet hours. The base and volume of music is rude. It goes all day and night.Spots spacious but you can't enjoy it with the tolerated noise levels. Not coming here again. Been to several camping races and never has it been this bad. Terrible.
Aug 06, 2023 · Vicki PhilippThe size of sites are generous. However, there are no tables, fire rings, or grills. You get a piece of the field and 30 amps. No trees. Some of the sites are flat, but just as many are on an incline. This was a problem for some trailers. Also, for motorhome owners, this campground mentioned a Michigan law that supposedly stated you can't have two steering wheels on one campsite. They wanted to charge us for our tow vehicle to be parked in a parking lot at the entrance. That was a ridiculous ask. I'm not sure what Michigan was thinking with this law. We couldn't find the law to read and the campground didn't provide it. But once our coach is parked, it is on jacks and doesn't move. It's no different than a fifth wheel or a travel trailer. Luckily, they didn't force the issue, and so I'm not holding against the campground, but I mention it just in case you run across the same issue here. The bath house can get dirty with so many people walking to use it. But it's big. Staff was friendly. Water/sewer trucks came by often. Trash pick up on site. They allow clever sales like ice cream trucks, corn on the cob, etc. That was nice.
Aug 10, 2023 · WendyinOhioI can appreciate a good time and all , but people are allowed to party , scream, and run their generators all hours of the night.
Aug 17, 2024 · Brad MichaelOpen area Campground with no trees. Not saying that's a bad thing, because let's face it, the main point of these campgrounds is a place to stay and have a good time partying. This Campground definitely seems a little more low-key than the other ones right on the track. The only complaint is there is only one dump station, with only one drain. Takes a long time because of that to get out. If you are willing to pay the extra but, they do come around with trucks to empty your tanks for about $50 a pop.
