What an amazing weekend at the oaks yurt! The location is beautiful, the trails are well maintained, the site is well appointed and perfectly laid out, and the yurt itself is immaculate. Not a thing was missing and it is well equipped with all the necessities and even extras, like games and candles. The outhouse is pristinely kept and super clean. I cannot wait for the snow to finally fall to be back for a x-country ski trip and another stay at the yurts! Thanks Scott for having us!! - Ivona Buckley

As locals, we understand the appeal of a getaway that lets us unplug and recharge. These eco-friendly yurts are thoughtfully designed to provide a comfortable base from which to explore the stunning Western Maine landscape, whether you're hiking in the summer or cross-country skiing in the winter.

What truly sets Frost Mountain Yurts apart is its commitment to providing a "glorified camping" experience. You get the sense of being in the wilderness without the hassle of setting up a tent or lugging extensive gear. Reviews consistently praise the immaculate condition of the yurts, the well-maintained trails, and the thoughtful amenities provided. If you're looking for a unique, private, and truly memorable escape into the heart of Maine's natural beauty, Frost Mountain Yurts deserves a top spot on your list. This article will provide you with all the essential details to plan your perfect off-grid adventure.

Location and Accessibility

Frost Mountain Yurts is nestled in a serene, wooded setting at 56 Farnsworth Rd, Brownfield, ME 04010, USA. This location places it in the picturesque western lakes and mountains region of Maine, offering both seclusion and convenient access to a wealth of outdoor activities and charming towns.

Brownfield is a small town, but its geographical position makes it a fantastic hub for exploring. It's just a few miles south of Fryeburg, home to the famous Fryeburg Fair, and minutes away from the vibrant amenities of the Mount Washington Valley in New Hampshire. This means campers can enjoy the peace of their yurt retreat while having easy access to restaurants, shops, and attractions just a short drive away.

For local users across Maine, reaching Frost Mountain Yurts is straightforward. The campground is accessible via Route 5 (ME-5) and Route 113, which connect to major thoroughfares like Route 302 and eventually I-95. The drive offers scenic views, particularly as you approach the mountainous regions. While the yurts themselves are a short walk into the woods from the parking area (ranging from 1/10th to 1/4 mile depending on the yurt), this intentional seclusion enhances the sense of being truly "away from it all." Pack sleds and carts are available to help transport gear, making the short walk manageable. For winter visitors, it's crucial to note that Farnsworth Road has specific plowed sections, and access from certain directions might be limited, so always check their detailed directions. This combination of remote feel and relative accessibility to key regional attractions makes Frost Mountain Yurts a uniquely appealing destination for Mainers.

Features / Highlights

Frost Mountain Yurts distinguishes itself with a collection of unique features and highlights that promise a memorable glamping adventure for its guests:

  • Unique Yurt Accommodations: The primary highlight is the experience of staying in a beautifully crafted yurt. These circular, sturdy structures offer a cozy and intimate atmosphere, providing a significant upgrade from tent camping while maintaining a strong connection to nature.
  • Secluded & Private Settings: Each of the six yurts is nestled in its own private setting within 57 acres of wooded land, ensuring a sense of tranquility and seclusion, even when other yurts are occupied.
  • Year-Round Accessibility: Unlike many traditional campgrounds, Frost Mountain Yurts is open year-round. The warmth of the wood stove makes winter stays particularly appealing for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts.
  • Direct Trail Access: An extensive private network of hiking, cross-country ski, and snowshoe trails leaves directly from the yurts. Guests can explore miles of groomed trails (in winter) and hiking paths without needing to drive anywhere. This includes access to the international snowmobile trail network for longer loops.
  • Stunning Mountain Views (from trails): Guests can hike to the top of Frost Mountain (a relatively easy 1.5-hour round trip) for spectacular panoramic views of Mount Washington, Pleasant Mountain (Shawnee Peak Ski Area), and Brownfield Bog.
  • Authentic Off-Grid Experience: The absence of electricity and running water within the yurts provides a genuine opportunity to unplug and disconnect, fostering a deeper appreciation for the outdoors. Yet, the provided gas lighting and cooking facilities ensure comfort.
  • Thoughtful Amenities: Reviews consistently highlight the meticulous care and attention to detail in equipping the yurts. From kitchenware to games and even candles, "not a thing was missing," making the stay comfortable and convenient. The "pristinely kept" outhouses are also frequently praised.
  • Pet-Friendly: The welcoming policy for pets, complete with a small per-night fee, makes it an excellent choice for those who want to bring their furry companions on their outdoor adventures.
  • Proximity to Local Attractions: Despite its secluded feel, the yurts are just minutes away from Fryeburg and the broader Mount Washington Valley, offering easy access to the Saco River for swimming, kayaking, and tubing, local farm stands, and other attractions like the Fryeburg Fair.
Promotions or Special Offers

Frost Mountain Yurts, being a unique, specialized lodging experience, primarily focuses on delivering value through its distinctive offerings and comfortable amenities rather than frequent, broad discounts. However, some pricing structures and potential savings opportunities exist:

  • Children 5 and Under Stay Free: This is a standing offer, making it more affordable for families with very young children.
  • Pet Fee: While not a discount, the transparent $5 per dog/per night fee is clearly communicated, allowing guests to budget accordingly for their furry companions.
  • Value in Year-Round Access: The ability to stay in a warm, comfortable yurt year-round, including prime winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing seasons, offers inherent value that many traditional campgrounds cannot provide.
  • Inclusion of Essentials: The fact that firewood, cooking gas, and basic toiletries are already included in the rental price adds value and convenience, as guests don't need to purchase these separately or bring them from home.

Specific, time-limited promotional codes or seasonal sales are not consistently advertised through publicly available information. By calling them or checking their official website, you can ensure you have the most up-to-date pricing and information.
