It may not be a sprawling resort packed with diverse activities and luxury facilities, but for those who prioritize casting a line and enjoying the peace of a well-stocked lake, it holds significant value. Prepare to discover why, for the dedicated angler and nature lover, Frazier's Campground can still be a valuable "get away from…" and "Best lake ever" experience in Minnesota's beautiful lake country.
Location and Accessibility
Frazier's Campground is situated at 45501 Co Hwy 31, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572, USA. This location places it firmly in the heart of Otter Tail County, a region celebrated throughout Minnesota for its unparalleled abundance of lakes – a staggering number that contributes to its reputation as a premier destination for water recreation.
Pelican Rapids is a welcoming community in west-central Minnesota, easily accessible for residents across the state. From the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area, the drive to Pelican Rapids is typically less than an hour to the east. For those traveling from the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul), the journey usually takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours, making it a feasible distance for a weekend fishing trip or a longer family vacation focused on lake activities. The county highways leading to the campground are generally well-maintained, ensuring a relatively smooth and straightforward drive for all types of vehicles, including those towing fishing boats or campers.
A critical aspect of Frazier's Campground's location is its direct or very close proximity to a significant body of water. While the reviews explicitly mention "the lake & fishing" and provide specific fish species, inferring it's on or very near Pelican Lake, which is a large and popular fishing lake in the area. This immediate access to prime fishing grounds is the campground's main geographical advantage. While one review points out that "The only thing this place has to offer is the lake & fishing," for dedicated anglers, this is precisely its greatest asset. The natural setting, combined with its accessibility from major routes, positions Frazier's Campground as a prime spot for those looking to immerse themselves in Minnesota's renowned fishing scene.
Services Offered
Based on customer reviews indicating it's a place to "park your camper" and focus on "the lake & fishing," and considering the nature of many Minnesota campgrounds, Frazier's Campground would likely offer essential services, although the reviews suggest limited upgrades and upkeep in some areas. Typical services may include:
- RV Sites: Spaces designed for recreational vehicles, potentially with varying levels of hookups (water, electric, possibly sewer), though specific hookup availability is not detailed and a review mentions being charged "even if you don’t have a camper with any hook ups."
- Tent Camping: Areas or sites suitable for traditional tent camping.
- Lake Access: Direct or very close proximity to the lake for fishing, boating, and other water-related activities.
- Boat Launch/Docking: Facilities to launch and secure boats for fishing.
- Fishing-Focused Amenities: While not specified, given the strong fishing focus, there might be a fish cleaning station or areas dedicated to anglers.
- Bath House: Restroom and shower facilities are likely present, although one review negatively comments on their condition ("makes you feel like you’re going to walk out with a bunch of diseases").
- Basic Site Amenities: Each site would typically include a picnic table and a fire ring for cooking and campfires.
- Fee Structure: A fee system is in place, as a reviewer mentions paying "$10 for tent camping" (though this might be an older rate or for a different campground mentioned in a search result for "Frazier"). It appears there are charges even without hookups, implying a general site fee.
Features / Highlights
- Exceptional Fishing Opportunities: The absolute strongest highlight, repeatedly emphasized, is the "Excellent fishing" for a variety of popular species including "Northern Pike, walleye, crappie, sun fish, and large mouth bass." This is a major draw for anglers.
- Prime Lake Access: Direct or very close proximity to the lake, making it easy to get on the water for fishing and other aquatic pursuits.
- Focus on Core Outdoor Experience: For those who prioritize lake activities and a simple "get away" focused on nature, this campground offers just that.
- Potential for Tranquility (Outside Peak Times): If the primary focus is the lake, it can provide a peaceful setting for fishing and relaxation, especially if the "great company" mentioned in older reviews refers to a positive community spirit.
Important Considerations (Based on Reviews):
- Upkeep and Upgrades: Recent reviews indicate a significant decline in "upgrades/upkeep" and cleanliness, particularly regarding the "bath house." Visitors should manage expectations concerning facility modernity and cleanliness.
- Value for Money: Concerns about being charged "an arm and a leg" even for sites without hookups suggest some visitors feel the pricing does not align with the perceived value or lack of recent improvements.
- Limited Activities Beyond Fishing: The explicit statement, "The only thing this place has to offer is the lake & fishing," indicates that campers seeking a wide array of on-site activities or a resort-like experience may find it lacking compared to "other long term campgrounds."

For a particular segment of local users, this campground offers precisely what they seek, making it a viable and attractive option.
The undeniable highlight for locals is the "Excellent fishing" available in the adjacent lake. Minnesotans cherish their fishing opportunities, and a campground that consistently delivers walleye, Northern Pike, crappie, sunfish, and bass is a significant draw. For the dedicated angler, the quality of the fishing often outweighs the need for extensive on-site amenities or luxurious facilities. If the emphasis is purely on the quality of the fishing and direct lake access, Frazier's Campground still holds significant value.
In essence, Frazier's Campground remains suitable for a niche of Minnesotan outdoor enthusiasts: those who prioritize top-tier fishing above all else. For these individuals, the "Best lake ever" and its abundant fish populations will continue to be the compelling reasons to visit, proving that sometimes, the simplest offerings, when done well, are precisely what make a place suitable for its local audience.

Frazier's Campground Reviews
Use to be a great place for families & to get away from…It has gone down hill significantly over the years they will charge you an arm and a leg even if you don’t have a camper with any hook ups and for as much as they charge people you see no sort!of upgrades/upkeep. Fish house could be bigger, The bath house makes you feel like you’re going to walk out with a bunch of diseases. I’ve been to other long term campgrounds and they have so much more to do & make it welcoming. The only thing this place has to offer is the lake & fishing.
