Frazier Horse Camp is located on an unnamed road in Roosevelt, AZ 85545, USA. This places it in a prime position to enjoy the expansive Roosevelt Lake, one of Arizona's most popular water-based recreation areas. The campground is nestled in the saguaro cactus-studded Sonoran Desert, offering stunning views of the blue water and the dramatic Sierra Ancha, Salome, and Superstition Wilderness areas. Access to the campground is straightforward, with paved roads leading from major highways, including State Hwy 188. This makes it a manageable drive from both the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. The on-site parking is spacious and designed to accommodate horse trailers and pull vehicles, which is a significant convenience for equestrians. While the address may be listed as "Unnamed Road," official directions often refer to its location just past the Roosevelt Work Center on State Hwy 188. Its secluded feel, combined with its relative accessibility, makes it a perfect balance of a true wilderness retreat and a convenient destination for a weekend trip or an extended stay.
Frazier Horse Camp is well-equipped with a variety of amenities that cater specifically to the needs of equestrians and general campers. The focus on cleanliness and practicality is evident in the positive reviews from visitors. Here are some of the key services you can expect:
Running Water and RV Water Hookups: The campground provides running water through several water spigots (hydrants) located throughout the camp. This is a vital amenity for both campers and their horses. While the provided information includes "RV water hookup," it's important to note that the primary water service is for general use and for horse drinkers, which is a great convenience for all.
Public Restrooms: The campground features public restrooms that are consistently described as "immaculate" and "very clean" by campers. This high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to a comfortable and pleasant stay, which is often a top priority for campers.
On-site Parking: The spacious on-site parking is a major plus, particularly for those with large horse trailers. It allows for easy maneuvering and ensures that vehicles are secure and easily accessible throughout the visit.
Picnic Tables: Each site is equipped with a picnic table, and as one review notes, many have a metal cover or shade ramada over them. This provides a comfortable and shaded area for meals, even on hot Arizona days.
Tent Sites: While designed for horses, the individual campsites can also accommodate tents, making it a versatile option for various camping styles. The clear distinction of sites makes them easy to find and set up.
Camping Fee: The campground operates on a fee basis, which is a common practice for maintaining the high standards and amenities available at the site. The self-pay station or online reservation system makes the process straightforward.
Dog-Friendly: Dogs are allowed at Frazier Horse Camp, which means you don't have to leave your canine companion behind. This makes it a great spot for the entire family to enjoy the outdoors together.
Frazier Horse Camp’s unique features are what truly make it an exceptional place to camp. These highlights are repeatedly praised by visitors and are the reasons for its loyal following:
Dedicated Equestrian Facilities: The most significant highlight is the design for equestrians. The sites feature "2 10x10 secure pens" or corrals, as noted by visitors, which are perfect for keeping horses safe and comfortable. The presence of a manure dump and water hydrants also demonstrates the thoughtful planning that went into creating a functional space for horse owners.
Exceptional Camp Hosts: The reviews are filled with praise for the camp hosts, with names like Dusty and Cindy being mentioned as "fantastic," "amazing," and "some of the best hosts we've met." They are known for being friendly, helpful, and for keeping the camp "immaculate." Their willingness to go above and beyond, even lending a generator to a camper, speaks volumes about the level of customer service.
Stunning Views: Campers consistently mention the "spectacular" views of Roosevelt Lake. While the lake may "peek thru the trees," the scenery is a major draw, with site 2 being noted for having the "best view." The sunsets and dramatic mountain backdrops provide a constant source of natural beauty.
Access to Hiking and Riding Trails: The campground offers access to the Arizona Trail via the Cottonwood trail. While some reviews note that many other trails require trailering, the camp's proximity to this famous trail is a significant draw for both hikers and horse riders. The site itself also offers opportunities for "kid-friendly hikes" and exploring the local area.
Spacious and Private Sites: Reviews mention that the sites are "spacious" and that campers can easily find privacy, which is a highly valued feature for a quiet and relaxing getaway.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Camp hosts fantastic. Loaned us their portable generator on rainy day. Camp immaculate. Metal cover over the picnic table. 2 10x10 secure pens. 3 water spigots, immaculate restrooms, Manuer dump at far end from us, trash dumpsters. The only negative is 1 4 mi RT trail, ends at very steep atv roads. Lake peeks thru the trees, best view site 2. Site 1 has best shade for the horses.
December 05 · Maxine DonerDusty and Cindy are some of the best hosts we've met. The camp is immaculate. The sites are spacious and the two corrals at each site is great. The restrooms were also very clean. The view from camp is spectacular. We will be returning.
January 18 · Michelle CarusoTHIS IS A VERY SENIC BEAUTIFUL AREA LOVED THIS ♡ A GREAT DAY TRIP OR OVERNIGHT
July 05 · Kris McCutcheonCamp is absolutely beautiful. The lake is really close but you cannot access it with horses. Now, the bad part....the trails were AWFUL! Full of HUGE sharp jagged rocks. We passed through the first gate, rode under the tunnel (you go under the road to get to the other side) and then up to another gate. We finally turned around after hardly 1,5 miles. Sad because the campground is fabulous!!
March 16 · Annie BI don't have any horses, but I still got water here. It was hot though and no one would give me a ride. I waited for hours with my thumb out, but no one would pick me up. I am disgusted by the lack of empathy shown by the soulless drivers on highway 188.
