Fox Island Campground #1, like other Lake George Islands campsites, provides essential amenities designed to offer a comfortable yet rustic island camping experience.
Private Boat Dock: Each island campsite, including Fox Island #1, comes with its own dock, capable of accommodating at least one boat. This is crucial for access and provides a secure place to moor your vessel, offering protection from boat wakes and storms.
Campsite Layout: As a "small campsite," it is typically designed for a specific number of people (often up to 9) and includes designated tent pads. The sites are generally well-forested, offering a degree of privacy, though some, like Fox Island #1, are on the shoreline and may have less seclusion due to their spectacular views.
Fireplace/Fire Ring: Every site is equipped with a fireplace or fire ring, perfect for campfires, cooking, and enjoying evenings under the stars.
Picnic Table: Each campsite includes a picnic table, providing a convenient surface for meal preparation and dining.
Toilet Facility (Privy/Composting Toilet): Basic toilet facilities, often in the form of a privy or composting toilet, are provided at each campsite for convenience.
Food Lockers/Critter Boxes: To protect food from wildlife, campsites often include food lockers or critter boxes, which are essential for secure storage.
Potable Water: While not typically available directly at each island site, potable water is generally accessible at the main island group headquarters (e.g., Glen Island) or via designated water supply points on the mainland. Campers are advised to bring sufficient water or plan to refill at these locations.
Waste Management: Dumpsters are usually available at the main headquarters islands or mainland access points for proper waste disposal. Campers are expected to pack out all trash from their individual island sites.
Site Maintenance: The campsites are maintained by New York State Parks staff, ensuring that facilities are kept tidy and accessible.
Spectacular 270-Degree Lake and Mountain Views: The most acclaimed feature of Fox Island Campground #1, highlighted by visitors, is its unparalleled panoramic views. From this site, you can enjoy stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains and the adjacent bay, creating a truly picturesque setting for your camping experience. This includes unique perspectives of the large lake tour boats emerging from narrow channels.
Protected Private Boat Dock: The campsite boasts a private dock that is notably well-protected from speedboat wakes and storms. This is a significant advantage for boaters, ensuring a secure and stable mooring for your vessel throughout your stay.
Boat-In Only Access: This unique feature defines the camping experience at Fox Island #1. Being accessible only by boat adds an element of adventure and seclusion, making it ideal for those seeking a more private and immersive natural getaway away from crowded mainland campgrounds.
Crystal-Clear Lake George Water: Visitors consistently praise the "nice" and clear water of Lake George. This means excellent opportunities for swimming directly from your campsite or dock, as well as for various other water activities.
Proximity to Water Activities: Lake George is renowned for its recreational opportunities. From Fox Island #1, you have direct access to swimming, fishing (for species like smallmouth bass, perch, pike, and muskie), paddling (canoeing, kayaking), and powerboating. The lake's vastness (32 miles long) offers endless exploration.

Part of the Lake George Islands Campgrounds: Fox Island #1 is one of 387 shoreline campsites spread across 44 state-owned islands on Lake George, making it part of a unique and extensive island camping network managed by New York State Parks.
As a New York State Parks facility, Fox Island Campground #1, like all Lake George Islands campsites, generally operates under a standardized fee structure without frequent or publicly advertised "special offers" in the traditional commercial sense. However, there are aspects that can be considered beneficial for various user groups:
Standardized State Park Fees: The pricing for campsites is set by New York State Parks, which typically offers very competitive rates compared to private campgrounds, making it an affordable option for many New Yorkers seeking outdoor recreation. These rates are usually publicly available via the ReserveAmerica booking system.
Senior Pass/Access Pass Benefits: While specific discounts need to be verified, New York State Parks often offers reduced fees or passes for New York State residents who are seniors, veterans, or have disabilities. It is advisable for eligible individuals to inquire about the "Golden Age Pass" or "Access Pass" which can provide entry fee waivers or camping discounts at state parks.
Off-Peak Season Considerations: Although Fox Island Campground #1 has a specific operating season, if there are early spring or late fall booking windows available, these times often see fewer crowds and a more tranquil experience, which can be seen as a "value offer" for those seeking solitude, even if the price remains consistent.
Group Camping Opportunities (General Islands): While Fox Island #1 is a single site, the broader Lake George Islands campgrounds system sometimes offers group sites on larger islands or special arrangements for larger parties, which can be more cost-effective per person. It's worth inquiring if you're planning a large gathering across multiple sites.
Value of Natural Amenities: The "special offer" here truly lies in the inherent value of the unique island experience itself. The private dock, stunning views, and direct lake access are premium features that are included in the standard camping fee, offering significant recreational value without additional charges for these specific amenities.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential discounts (such as those for New York State residents or specific passes), it is always best to consult the official New York State Parks website or the ReserveAmerica booking platform, which manages reservations for these state park campgrounds.

Fox Island Campground #1 Reviews
This campsite includes a dock that's decently protected from speedboat wakes and storms. There can be so many speed boats that the noise resembles a race track, especially with the echoes created by the steep nearby mountains. But the 270° view from this campsite of the mountains and the adjacent little bay is spectacular! The view even includes seeing the big lake tour boats emerge from a very narrow channel that goes between nearby islands and the shore.
