Fort McCoy / Lake Oklawaha KOA Holiday

15991 NE 243rd Place Rd, Fort McCoy, FL 32134, USA

4.0
This is a sad KOA. It is geared towards atv's so it has a ton of atv's riding around campground and making a ton of noise and dust. The pool burned my skin. People walk right thru your campsite with no regard. The rules for atv's that we read were not followed and it made it hard to explain to our grandson. We pay more to stay at KOA's and expect a little more. It had no garbage service and our campsite had cigarette butts all over it. Gross place and do not recommend. - Rebecca McDonough

Fort McCoy / Lake Oklawaha KOA Holiday is strategically located at 15991 NE 243rd Place Rd, Fort McCoy, FL 32134, USA. This address places the campground in the heart of Central Florida, specifically within Marion County. Its prime position is notable for its proximity to the vast Ocala National Forest, a significant natural resource offering numerous recreational opportunities for Floridians.

Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward. While Fort McCoy maintains a rural and natural ambiance, the campground is reachable via well-maintained roads. For those traveling from various parts of Florida, access typically involves navigating state roads that lead to Fort McCoy. The KOA’s official directions advise callers from the North on I-95 to stay straight on Highway 19 until Salt Springs, then turn onto County Road 316, followed by an 11-mile drive after seeing the KOA sign. This guidance helps prevent being routed onto unpaved or less suitable roads by GPS, which is a common concern in more rural areas.

The location’s key highlight is its direct adjacency to the Ocala National Forest. This means that extensive trails for ATV and OHV riding are virtually at the campground’s doorstep, making it an ideal staging point for off-road adventures. This proximity allows enthusiasts to easily access permits and embark on their riding excursions.

Furthermore, the campground boasts a bluff-top view of Lake Oklawaha and features 3,700 feet of private lakefront. This natural setting offers opportunities for fishing and enjoying the serene lake environment, providing a beautiful backdrop for camping. While it is stated that lake swimming is not advised, the views and fishing opportunities are still a significant draw. This combination of forest access and lake views truly leverages Florida’s natural landscape, making it a compelling location for those seeking an immersive outdoor experience.
