This Forest Service campground provides a welcoming environment for both tent and RV campers, with a reputation for its clean facilities and incredibly helpful staff. It is a place where you can find a comfortable basecamp for your adventures, whether you're heading to Yellowstone National Park or simply exploring the stunning local area.
The campground has a distinct feel, with a number of spacious sites that are well-cared for. Its appeal lies in its straightforward and practical approach to camping. Flat Rock Campground is conveniently situated along US-20 in Island Park, ID, making it highly accessible for travelers. Its address at US-20, Island Park, ID 83429, places it approximately 22 miles south of the West Yellowstone, Montana entrance to Yellowstone National Park and about 30 miles north of Ashton, Idaho. The campground's proximity to the highway means easy in-and-out access, a major plus for those with larger RVs. While this location brings some road noise, as noted by several campers, it is generally considered tolerable and a fair trade-off for the convenience and affordability. The campground is also adjacent to the Henry's Fork of the Snake River, a world-renowned destination for fly-fishing, and is just a short drive from other popular attractions such as the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway and Harriman State Park. Its location truly puts you in the center of some of Idaho's most spectacular natural wonders.

For Idahoans and travelers passing through, Flat Rock Campground is a highly recommended choice for several key reasons. It masterfully balances the authentic feel of a Forest Service campground with the practical amenities and location that make a trip easy and enjoyable.
The most compelling reason to choose Flat Rock is its incredible value and location. It offers a more affordable alternative to the expensive private campgrounds and lodges in the West Yellowstone area, without sacrificing proximity to the park. The money saved on lodging can be used for other parts of your trip, such as tours or gear rentals. For those who want to be close to the action of Yellowstone but prefer a more relaxed and cost-effective place to stay, Flat Rock is the perfect solution.
Furthermore, the quality of the camping experience itself is a major draw. The well-maintained sites, clean facilities, and the presence of an exceptional camp host are all factors that contribute to a positive and stress-free stay. The ability to have an electric hookup for your RV is a significant convenience that is not always available at Forest Service sites. This blend of rustic charm with essential amenities makes it a comfortable choice for a wide range of campers, from those who are brand new to RVing to experienced tent campers.
Finally, the natural surroundings and nearby recreational opportunities add immense value to your stay. Located on the Henry's Fork, it provides easy access to world-class fly-fishing and other water activities. The close proximity to the Continental Divide Trail and other local trails makes it a haven for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. While there may be some road noise, it is a small trade-off for the convenience of being able to easily access all the area has to offer. Flat Rock Campground is not just a place to stay; it’s a friendly, well-managed, and conveniently located basecamp for all your Idaho adventures.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great campground. 25 for dry camp. 31 for electric. Sites are big in loop b. Privy is very clean, looks new inside. The camp host, she is wonderful. Keeps the place looking good! There is some road noise, but hey your not far outside the Yellowstone park entrance and you could spend 90 a night at a private campground and have the same noise…moon is out, stars are here. Be happy my friends.
June 09 · Heath AyersSpent almost a full week there recently. It was wonderful! Annie, the host, was amazing! So friendly and fun to talk to! She makes sure all of your needs are met. The campground was clean and so were the bathrooms. We will certainly go back there!
July 12 · Nancy LordsThe camp post annie was wonderful. The bathrooms are super clean. That was a big plus. Camping spots are paved, which makes it nice and flat for a trailer. It is close to the road. The one downfall is the noise from the trucks at night. But it is a short, walk to the river and close to max inn.
June 30 · Connie DorseyFull but uncrowded when we went on Memorial day weekend, with 27ft trailer.ATV parking avail. Kind Hosts. Some reservations allowed, some First Come First Serve. Some riverside spots (loop A), some forrest (loop B).Close enough to Yellowstone Park ('bout 35mins) and stores/gas across the Hwy.
June 02 · Nicole BullingtonGreat camp spot 😀 i would give this place 5 stars but my husband is not a fan of road noise.Danny and Annie were super hosts ☺️ so much to see in the area. We visited Yellowstone NP and Grand Teton NP, Johnny Sack’s Cabin, Quake Lake, Buffalo Bill Dam, and drove the All American Highway from our camp spot.
