Encampment RV Park is conveniently located at the intersection of 4th Street and Winchell Avenue in the charming, historic town of Encampment, Wyoming, with the postal code 82325. This puts it right in the heart of the community, offering easy access to the local amenities and the serene beauty of the surrounding Carbon County landscape. Encampment itself is situated in the picturesque Platte River Valley, a region known for its fishing, hiking, and rich mining and timber history.
Accessibility to the park is straightforward, making it an ideal stop for those traveling through southern Wyoming. From major highways like US-287 or WY-70, a brief drive will lead you directly into Encampment. Once in town, the intersection of 4th St & Winchell Ave is easily identifiable. The RV park is positioned to allow for relatively easy maneuvering of RVs and trailers into its designated spaces. While the park is within the town limits, it retains a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, providing a sense of seclusion without being completely isolated. Its location makes it a perfect jumping-off point for exploring the Sierra Madre and Snowy Range mountains, or for simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance of a small Wyoming town. Visitors should note that while the park is centrally located in Encampment, the town itself is a rural community, so planning for fuel and supplies before arriving is always a good idea, especially for longer stays. Encampment RV Park operates as a rustic city park campground, focusing on providing essential services for RVers and campers who appreciate a more basic, honor-system approach to their stay. It's designed for self-sufficient travelers who prioritize value and a quiet atmosphere over extensive amenities.
- RV Sites: The park offers approximately eight designated RV spaces, accommodating various sizes of recreational vehicles.
- Electric Hookups: Some sites are equipped with 30-amp electric hookups, providing power for essential RV functions. It is advisable to check specific site availability upon arrival.
- Water Hookups: While some sites may have water hookups, it is important to note that, according to recent visitor experiences, water service can be seasonal and may be turned off during colder months (e.g., mid-October). Campers should plan to be self-sufficient with their water supply if visiting outside of peak season.
- Dump Stations: Some sites reportedly offer dump facilities, providing convenience for waste disposal. Similar to water, availability may vary seasonally.
- Honor System / Donation Box: The park operates on an honor system. Payment for services is collected via donation boxes located on site, typically near the electric posts. This allows visitors to contribute what they feel is fair for their stay, making it a very budget-friendly option.
- Restrooms (Seasonal): While restrooms are listed as an amenity, recent visitor feedback indicates they are often locked for the season, particularly outside of peak summer months. Campers should be prepared to use their RV's facilities or make alternative arrangements.
- Proximity to Thrift Store: Uniquely, the RV park shares a lot with a local thrift store, which some visitors have highlighted as a pleasant surprise for finding "great deals." This adds a quirky, local flavor to the stay.
It is crucial for potential visitors to understand that due to the park's rustic nature and seasonal operations, not all amenities may be available at all times, especially water and restrooms outside of the prime summer camping season. Being prepared for a self-sufficient camping experience is key to enjoying a stay at Encampment RV Park.
Encampment RV Park, despite its simple offerings, boasts several unique features and highlights that make it a memorable and appealing stop for campers visiting Wyoming. These elements truly capture the essence of a tranquil, authentic High Plains experience.
- Spectacular Stargazing: A standout highlight, consistently praised by visitors, is the incredible clarity of the night sky. Away from major light pollution, the stars at Encampment RV Park are described as "spectacular." This makes it an ideal spot for astronomy enthusiasts or anyone who cherishes a breathtaking view of the Milky Way.
- Abundant Wildlife Viewing: The rural setting often brings wildlife right to your doorstep. Visitors have reported seeing numerous pronghorn antelope roaming freely around the campground and the surrounding area, offering fantastic opportunities for wildlife photography and observation. The potential to see a rainbow, as noted by one visitor, further enhances the natural beauty.
- Peaceful and Quiet Atmosphere: For those seeking respite from noisy, crowded campgrounds, Encampment RV Park delivers. It's consistently described as a "nice quiet little city park," perfect for just chilling for a bit and enjoying the serenity of the Wyoming landscape.
- Budget-Friendly (Donation-Based): Operating on an honor system with donation boxes, this park offers an incredibly affordable camping option. This unique payment method makes it accessible to a wide range of travelers and reflects the trusting, community-oriented spirit of small-town Wyoming.
- Unique Thrift Store Proximity: A charming and unexpected feature is the presence of a local thrift store right on the same lot. This provides a quirky opportunity for visitors to browse for unique finds, with one reviewer specifically recommending showing up on a Wednesday for "great deals."
- Good AT&T Coverage (for some): While Verizon coverage is noted as being absent, AT&T users will appreciate reliable signal strength, allowing for connectivity while still enjoying a remote feel.
- Historic Small Town Setting: The park's location in Encampment itself is a highlight. This historic town offers glimpses into Wyoming's past, with local museums and a quaint Main Street, providing a cultural complement to the outdoor experience.
These features collectively define the unique appeal of Encampment RV Park, making it a hidden gem for those who value natural beauty, peace, and a friendly, unpretentious camping environment in Wyoming.

Encampment RV park Reviews
It was just a place to rest for the night but I ended up seeing wildlife and a rainbow and got some great deals at the little thrift store in the same lot(So show up on Wednesday!). You can pay in donation boxes on site. The water was off, the restroom locked, but the electric worked fine and I didn't need amenities. Grateful for the rest and the stars at night were spectacular.
Nov 15, 2021 · Hey It's MeNice quiet little city park with about 8 spaces, some 30amp elec, some have dump, some no water. Bathrooms are locked now (mid-Oct) for the season. Honor system, donation box on one of the electric posts near the center of the campground. Good place to just chill for a bit. No Verizon coverage but AT&T works well. Lots of Pronghorn Antelope roaming around
Oct 08, 2021 · HerbnKathyRVBasic campground, run by donations only. I just used the dump station, but it looks like a good spot to park your RV
Jun 22, 2025 · Dave AltschulerThere are about 10 sites. All have water/electric several with sewer. There is no service during winter months. Service is turned on after Memorial Day. You can camp for free but ask for donations which can be dropped off at the city hall. We always make a donation. Park is by senior center and close to school. Nice place to park to explore the town and surrounding area.
May 25, 2024 · Sherry FesslerIt's really cool that a tiny town like this would have an RV area like this. It could use some TLC, like trimming trees, raking, etc, but I noticed hardly anybody put $$$ in the donation boxes. Come on, folks! It won't be around much longer without $$$ to support it.
