Empire Ranch Airstrip Group Camp Site

Campground ★4.0

It's always an amazing place to camp out. The scenery to me is amazing! It was a little windy but that didn't detour us from having fun! The camp site we wanted was already full being first come first serve, so we found another but did not realize there was a horseback endurance race that weekend, and the organizers put the trail rite through the middle of a posted camp site, that frustrated some of them and they went around other's just blazed through the middle of camp. But we still had fun watching them ride through. There are also reserved camps with bathrooms. Other than that, tons of dry camps. - Derrick Ian

  • On-site parking: The campground provides ample on-site parking, accommodating vehicles of various sizes. This is a significant convenience, as it allows campers to park right at their desired spot.
  • Dry camps: The majority of the site is dedicated to "dry camps," which means they do not have water, electricity, or sewer hookups. This is a key feature that appeals to those who enjoy a more primitive and self-sufficient camping experience. Campers should come prepared with all necessary supplies, including water, for their stay.
  • Reserved camps with bathrooms: While most of the site is dry camping, there are designated areas that can be reserved. These reserved spots may offer additional amenities, such as bathrooms, providing a more comfortable option for those who prefer it. This flexibility allows the campground to cater to a wider range of camping preferences.

The campground’s simplicity is part of its charm. The focus is on the natural environment and the experience of camping itself, rather than on modern amenities. This ensures that the primary attraction remains the stunning scenery and the outdoor activities available. • Windy conditions: A review from a real customer mentioned that it can be a little windy at times. This is a natural characteristic of the open, expansive terrain and something to be prepared for. The wind can be refreshing and help keep things cool, but campers should ensure their tents and gear are properly secured.
  • First-come, first-serve sites: Many of the camp sites operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. This adds an element of spontaneity and adventure to your trip. It's a system that works well for those who are flexible and enjoy the freedom of finding their perfect spot upon arrival. It is advisable to have a backup plan, especially during peak seasons.

This can be a unique and exciting feature of your stay, offering the chance to witness an impressive display of horsemanship. As a customer review noted, the trail for these races can sometimes pass through the camping areas, which adds a dynamic and interesting element to the experience.
  • Variety of camps: The existence of both dry camps and reserved camps with bathrooms provides a great deal of flexibility. This allows campers to choose the level of comfort and convenience that best suits their needs. Whether you're a minimalist or someone who prefers a few more creature comforts, you can find a suitable spot.
