Emerald Lake Campground is nestled in the Custer Gallatin National Forest near Fishtail, Montana, with an address of Fishtail, MT 59028, USA. Its location in the mountains is part of its rugged appeal. To reach the campground, you will travel on West Rosebud Road, which, according to visitor reviews, can be quite a rough journey, particularly the last few miles. The road is described as having potholes, washboards, and rocks, which means you need to be cautious. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is our special place. We love hiking to mystic lake! The other two lakes are perfect for fishing or water activities. No camp host, but vaulted toilets are available.
July 07 · Joe LilienthalThe campground is small but sites offer good privacy. The campsites are clean and well maintained. Few campsites have river access. It’s a popular campground and fills up quickly. I saw some reviews mentioning that the last 14 miles of the road was very rough. I went in my Subaru Outback. The first 8 miles are pretty doable for any regular SUV. Where it gets really rough with potholes, washboard and rocks is the last 6 -7 miles of the road. It will be quite rough for an RV or a car but any vehicle will need to be careful in this section. There were roadwork in progress when I went and hopefully, the road might be better in the future.
August 26 · Manesha IlapperumaGreat place to camp. Right between the lakes. Creekside viewsRestrooms were clean and well maintainedGreat for familiesBe careful the last 10 miles. Pretty rough road.
July 30 · skip nielsenThe campground was fine. Bathrooms were clean. It’s close to the two lakes, but if you’re going for views… this isn’t your place. All the sites are closed in by trees and shrubs. On top of that, the horseflies were absolutely unbearable. They were so bad that we ended up leaving after an hour to find another campground down the road. Additionally - as others have mentioned there are no attendants to keep folks in check. We had someone with a pitbull off leash that ran at us and was clearly dog reactive and not trained.
July 03 · Blair CrosswhiteBeautiful scenery, crystal clear water, abundant trout; what more could you ask for? Just a 2 hour drive from Billings, this is a must visit location. Take note that the drive up is EXTREMELY bumpy and slow going so don’t be in a hurry.
