3.0
We've been group camping at Eli Field for years. It's away from the main area so it's quiet ( sans the other groups) surrounded by woods and there is room for group games /roaming ( this area is a little uneven so it can be a little hazardous ). Sites where the tents go is fairly flat and feature water spickets, nice fire rings and separate grill stations. Additionally, there is a pavillion at one end -near site 1 and a flush toilet house down near site 4. No showers or individual electric at the sites. Overall, the sites & bathrooms are clean and good for groups that may need a little running area. - Ariana Sullivan

Eli Field Campground is located in the scenic area of Pikeville, Tennessee, with the address listed as Pikeville, TN 37367, USA. This places it within the beautiful landscapes of the Cumberland Plateau, an area known for its natural beauty, including close proximity to renowned state parks and natural attractions.

Its accessibility for Tennessee locals is a significant advantage. Pikeville is strategically located, offering a relatively easy drive from various parts of the state. While Eli Field is described as being "away from the main area," contributing to its quiet atmosphere, it remains reachable via established roads. This remoteness is a key feature, as it helps minimize external disturbances, allowing groups to enjoy their privacy and the sounds of nature.

Drivers should be aware that while the main access roads are generally good, getting to remote campgrounds within natural areas can sometimes involve navigating unpaved or less-maintained roads for the final stretch. However, the general accessibility makes it a practical choice for groups traveling in multiple vehicles. Being near Pikeville also means that essential supplies, groceries, and fuel are within a reasonable driving distance, providing convenience without sacrificing the feeling of being truly immersed in the wilderness. The journey to Eli Field is part of the experience, leading you deeper into Tennessee's captivating natural environment.

Eli Field Campground offers a focused set of services designed to support a group camping experience, blending rustic charm with key conveniences. While it maintains a more primitive feel than some full-service RV parks, it provides essential amenities for comfortable group stays.

  • Water Spickets: Sites are equipped with water spickets, providing convenient access to water for cooking, cleaning, and other camping needs. This is a significant amenity for group camping, reducing the need to transport large quantities of water.
  • Fire Rings: Each designated tent area features nice fire rings, perfect for campfires, cooking, and gathering. Campers can enjoy traditional campfire experiences, roasting marshmallows or simply relaxing by the warmth of a fire.
  • Separate Grill Stations: In addition to fire rings, separate grill stations are available at the sites. This allows for diverse cooking options, catering to different culinary preferences within the group.
  • Flush Toilet House: A major convenience, especially for group camping, is the presence of a flush toilet house located near site 4. This provides a more comfortable restroom experience compared to vault toilets found in many primitive campgrounds.
  • Pavilion: At one end of the campground, near site 1, there is a pavilion. This covered structure offers a communal space for groups to gather, eat, or seek shelter from sun or light rain, making it excellent for group activities and meals.
  • Tent Sites: The areas designated for tents are described as "fairly flat," making it easier to set up sleeping arrangements comfortably.

It's important to note what is generally *not* provided: individual electric hookups at the sites and showers. Campers should plan accordingly for these aspects, embracing a more traditional camping experience while still benefiting from the provided water, cooking stations, and flush toilets.

Eli Field Campground possesses several unique features and highlights that make it particularly appealing for its intended use—group camping—and for those seeking a specific type of outdoor experience in Tennessee.

  • Dedicated Group Camping Area: The primary highlight of Eli Field is its design and suitability for group camping. It's built to accommodate multiple tents and individuals, making it perfect for family reunions, scout troops, church groups, or large gatherings of friends.
  • Quiet and Secluded Atmosphere: Being "away from the main area," the campground offers a wonderfully quiet environment. This allows groups to truly immerse themselves in nature without the noise and distractions often found in more central or heavily trafficked campgrounds. The only sounds you're likely to hear are those of your own group and the surrounding woods.
  • Ample Room for Activities: Eli Field provides "room for group games / roaming." This open space is invaluable for groups, allowing for outdoor activities, team-building exercises, or simply stretching out and enjoying the natural surroundings. While some areas may be "a little uneven," the overall space is a significant asset.
  • Surrounded by Woods: The campground is completely "surrounded by woods," offering a feeling of deep immersion in nature. This provides natural shade, privacy, and opportunities for wildlife observation, enhancing the overall outdoor experience.
  • Convenient Water Access: The presence of "water spickets" at the sites is a major convenience, especially for group camping, reducing the need for constant water trips.
  • Improved Restroom Facilities: The availability of a "flush toilet house" is a significant upgrade over traditional vault toilets found in many primitive or remote campgrounds, offering a more comfortable experience for all campers.
  • Well-Equipped Campsites: The "nice fire rings and separate grill stations" indicate thoughtful provisions for cooking and gathering, making meal preparation and evening activities enjoyable and convenient for groups.
  • Cleanliness: Reviews emphasize that the "sites & bathrooms are clean," which is a crucial aspect for any campground, especially when traveling with a group.

These features collectively make Eli Field Campground a highly functional and desirable location for organized group outdoor activities in Tennessee, balancing a rustic feel with essential amenities.

For locals in Tennessee, Eli Field Campground stands out as an exceptionally suitable choice for group camping, and here's why it resonates so well with our community's needs. First and foremost, its dedicated setup for groups is a major advantage. Finding a location that can comfortably accommodate larger parties, whether it's a youth organization, a multi-family gathering, or a social club, with ample space for activities and communal enjoyment, can be a challenge. Eli Field addresses this directly, providing "room for group games / roaming" and flat areas for tents that are essential for successful group logistics.

The "quiet (sans the other groups)" atmosphere is also a significant draw. While you'll have the camaraderie of your own group, the campground's remote location ensures you're not disturbed by external noise, allowing for genuine relaxation and bonding. This is particularly appealing for Tennessee residents seeking to escape the everyday hustle and immerse themselves in nature without the distractions of crowded, high-traffic camping areas.

Furthermore, the combination of relatively primitive features with key conveniences makes it highly practical. Having "water spickets" directly at the sites and a "flush toilet house" (a luxury in many remote settings!) significantly enhances comfort without detracting from the authentic outdoor experience. The pavilion is another invaluable asset for groups, providing a central gathering point that is sheltered from the elements, perfect for shared meals or activities, come rain or shine. This thoughtful provision of amenities ensures that groups can focus on their time together rather than logistical challenges.

Being located in Pikeville, within a reasonable drive for many Tennesseans, means less travel time and more time spent enjoying the outdoors. It’s an accessible gateway to the beautiful Cumberland Plateau and its surrounding natural wonders, offering a fantastic setting for creating cherished memories with your group, year after year.
