Eagle Ridge Introduce
For Californians seeking a quieter, more secluded camping experience amidst the natural beauty of the Central Coast, Eagle Ridge Campground at Lake Nacimiento offers an idyllic retreat. Nestled near the vibrant community of Paso Robles, this campground is a gem for those who appreciate stunning lake views, ample shade from mature trees, and a short, invigorating walk to the water's edge. Unlike some of the larger, more bustling campgrounds around Lake Nacimiento, Eagle Ridge is known for its peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to unwind, connect with nature, and enjoy the vast recreational opportunities that the lake provides. It caters to campers who are prepared for a more rustic setup, embracing the "back to basics" charm of tent camping while still providing essential amenities for a comfortable stay.
Eagle Ridge Campground is located on an Unnamed Road near Paso Robles, CA 93446, USA, within the larger Lake Nacimiento Recreation Area. Lake Nacimiento itself is a prominent feature of California's Central Coast, situated east of Highway 101 between Paso Robles and Monterey. The lake boasts 165 miles of scenic shoreline, surrounded by rolling hills, oak and pine forests, and a rich array of wildlife.
Accessing Eagle Ridge involves navigating through the Lake Nacimiento Resort area. It is typically described as the fifth campground past Sandy Point when entering the main resort area. While the general address points to Paso Robles, the campground is specifically part of the Lake Nacimiento facilities. It's important to note that Eagle Ridge is primarily a remote parking and hike-in tent site campground. This means that after parking your vehicle, you will have a short walk to your campsite, which contributes to its secluded and quiet atmosphere. While there are roads to get to the general area, some internal roads within the Lake Nacimiento camping complex can be narrow, so caution is advised, especially if you are towing a boat or larger vehicle, though Eagle Ridge itself is not designed for large RVs.
Given its first-come, first-serve nature for many of its sites, arriving early, especially during peak seasons like summer weekends, is advisable to secure a spot. The stunning views and peaceful environment make it a highly sought-after location for tent campers.
Eagle Ridge Campground is designed to provide a comfortable, yet still primitive, camping experience for tent campers. It focuses on the fundamental needs while allowing visitors to truly immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. Here's a breakdown of the services and amenities you can expect:
Hike-in Tent Sites: The campground features sites accessible by a short walk from a remote parking area. This contributes significantly to its quiet and secluded ambiance, making it ideal for tent campers.
Picnic Tables: Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, providing a convenient surface for preparing and enjoying meals outdoors.
BBQs and Fire Rings: Individual campsites come with BBQ grills and fire rings, allowing campers to cook over an open flame and enjoy classic campfire experiences. However, campers must always check and adhere to current fire restrictions, which are common in California, especially during dry seasons. A California Campfire Permit may be required, and local fire regulations always take precedence.
Porta Potties (Chemical Toilets): Unlike campgrounds with flush toilets and showers, Eagle Ridge provides chemical toilets (porta potties). While basic, these facilities offer a necessary convenience in a more remote setting.
Trash Service: The campground does offer trash service, which is a valuable amenity for maintaining cleanliness. However, as noted in reviews, campers are strongly encouraged to practice "Leave No Trace" principles and potentially even leave their site cleaner than they found it, as loose trash can sometimes be an issue due to wind.
Fresh Water: Fresh water is provided on-site. While the method of delivery (e.g., spigots) isn't always detailed, its availability is a significant convenience for campers.
No Hook-ups, Showers, or Flush Toilets: It's important to set expectations that Eagle Ridge is a rustic campground. There are no RV hook-ups, flush toilets, or showers directly at the campground. For shower facilities, campers would typically need to access amenities at other, more developed areas within the larger Lake Nacimiento Resort.
Eagle Ridge Campground's allure lies in its natural attributes and the unique experiences it offers:
Quiet and Secluded Atmosphere: A top highlight mentioned by visitors is the peacefulness of Eagle Ridge. Its hike-in nature naturally filters out noise from vehicles and larger groups, creating a serene environment ideal for relaxation.
Stunning Lake Views: Many sites boast fantastic views of Lake Nacimiento, allowing campers to wake up to picturesque sunrises over the water and enjoy the beauty of the lake throughout the day.
Short Walk to the Lake: Direct and easy access to Lake Nacimiento means campers can quickly reach the water for swimming, wading, or launching non-motorized watercraft.
Ample Shade from Trees: The campground benefits from numerous trees, providing welcome shade, which is particularly valued during California's warm summers.
Great for Tent Campers: With its focus on hike-in sites and basic amenities, Eagle Ridge is perfectly suited for those who prefer traditional tent camping over RV setups.
Proximity to Lake Nacimiento Activities: While secluded, Eagle Ridge is still part of the larger Lake Nacimiento recreational area, meaning opportunities for boating, fishing (especially for the famous White Bass), waterskiing, and wakeboarding are just a short drive or walk away.
Wildlife Viewing: The natural surroundings offer chances to spot local wildlife, enhancing the wilderness experience.
The emphasis on leaving the campsite cleaner than you found it, as suggested by a reviewer, underscores the community aspect of this campground and the shared responsibility for preserving its beauty.

Eagle Ridge Reviews
Best quiet spot at Lake Nacimiento
Jun 21, 2025 · François CaronGreat views, short walk to the lake, lots of trees for shade. I'm giving it 5 stars because we left it cleaner than it was when we arrived like any decent human/camper should, but it was a mess where we were because all the loose trash blew toward our campsite. All campers should try to leave campsites cleaner than when they arrived, but I think campers that clean their campsites well should get to camp free or at least at a greatly discounted rate. A quick walk through video of before and after should be all the proof needed to make this a reality.
Jun 28, 2019 · eric wongSuper dirty under maintenance campground. Trash everywhere including the shoreline. Lots of rude party people camp here. Campground does not care what type of people camp here and will not evict anyone beware. Portable bathrooms disgusting and dogs off leash everywhere.
