From major population centers in Northern California, such as Sacramento or Redding, the drive to Susanville is scenic and manageable, typically following well-maintained state highways like US-395 or CA-36. The campground's proximity "near the lake" (likely Eagle Lake or a nearby body of water) is a significant advantage, providing easy access to water-based activities like fishing, non-motorized boating, or simply enjoying lakeside views. While specific details on the road into the campground aren't provided in the reviews, its designation as a "campground" implies standard access suitable for most vehicles, including RVs, even if hookups aren't available. Its location also places it within reach of other regional attractions in Lassen County, including portions of the Lassen National Forest, providing opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring the unique geological features of the area. The clear designation of its location ensures campers can easily plan their route and anticipate the kind of serene environment awaiting them.
Eagle Campground provides a focused set of services that prioritize cleanliness, comfort, and a peaceful camping experience, making it a top choice for locals who appreciate these qualities.
Spacious Campsites (No Hookups): The campground features "good sized and spread apart" sites, offering ample space and privacy for campers. Importantly, there are "no hook ups available," meaning no electrical, water, or sewer connections for RVs. This design choice contributes to the campground being "not crowded like the other campground," appealing to those who prefer a more rustic and quiet experience. Each site likely includes a picnic table and a fire ring, standard for this type of campground.
Exceptionally Clean Restrooms: A standout service highlighted by multiple customers is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. They are described as "the cleanest I've seen in a long while for a camp ground," which is a significant factor for many campers when choosing a location. These are likely vault toilets, given the no-hookup nature of the sites, but their meticulous upkeep is a testament to the management.
Friendly and Helpful Camp Host: The presence of an outstanding camp host, Erik, is consistently praised. He is described as "the most friendliest person and very helpful and informative." A dedicated and welcoming camp host significantly enhances the overall camping experience by providing assistance, local insights, and ensuring the campground is well-maintained.
Absence of Bear Concerns: A unique and reassuring service, particularly in California, is the explicit mention that there are "no bears to worry about." This eliminates a common concern for many campers regarding food storage and wildlife encounters, contributing significantly to a relaxed and worry-free stay. This feature alone is a powerful draw for those who prefer to enjoy nature without the added vigilance required in bear country.
Quiet Atmosphere: While not a tangible "service," the overall quiet environment of the campground, noted as "very quiet not to many campers" even during a busy Father's Day weekend, is a direct result of its design (no hookups, spread-out sites) and management, offering a peaceful retreat.
Serene Lakeside Setting: Eagle Campground is described as a "very pretty campground near the lake," suggesting direct or easy access to a body of water that enhances the natural beauty and provides opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment by the water.
Spacious and Private Campsites: The "good sized and spread apart" sites are a major highlight, offering campers a sense of privacy and seclusion often lacking in more densely packed campgrounds. This allows for a more intimate and peaceful camping experience.
Impeccably Clean Bathrooms: The consistently lauded cleanliness of the restrooms is a significant feature. For a rustic campground without full hookups, having spotless facilities elevates the comfort level and overall satisfaction of campers.
Welcoming and Informative Camp Host: The positive feedback about Camp Host Erik underscores a key feature: excellent on-site management and customer service. A friendly and helpful host can make a substantial difference in a camper's experience, providing local knowledge and ensuring smooth operations.
Absence of Bear Presence: This is a highly attractive feature, especially for families or individuals who may be wary of camping in traditional "bear country." The peace of mind that comes with "no bears to worry about" allows for greater relaxation and enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
Quiet and Uncrowded: The intentional lack of hookups contributes to a less crowded atmosphere. This appeals to campers who actively seek tranquility and prefer to avoid the hustle and bustle often found at more developed campgrounds, even during peak seasons.
Ideal for Relaxation and Nature Enjoyment: The overall ambiance and features of Eagle Campground are perfectly suited for simply "relaxing and enjoying nature," making it a go-to spot for unwinding and de-stressing.
"Definitely a place to return!": The strong sentiment from multiple reviewers indicating a desire to return highlights the overwhelmingly positive and satisfying experience campers have at Eagle Campground, speaking volumes about its quality.

Jun 20, 2024 · marcella BartonEagle Campground is a very pretty campground near the lake. The sites are good sized and spread apart. The are no hook ups available which just means it is not crowded like the other campground. Our host was wonderful, welcoming and very informative. Definitely a place to return!
Jul 07, 2024 · Suzanne MiladinA real nice surprise This was a perfect getaway Very few campers We have a 28ft camper and had a site with water and electricity. Discounted with a senior pass. Bathroom's were clean site was clean staff was accommodating Nice walking along the lake path for several miles
Sep 10, 2023 · Bruce KockaGreat campground! Large sites with plenty of space between them. The big trees were perfect for our hammock. The bathrooms are outdated but very clean. It is always a plus to have flush toilets, and drinking water! The camp hosts were so friendly and helpful! The main negative was there were coyotes yipping all night, and walking around our tent (no fault of the campground of course!). Needless to say we did not sleep very well. Another note is there is no direct beach access at the campground, and no beach access for swimming or kayaking (non motorized boats) in the immediate area. This I guess can happen in the summer when the reservoir is low. Wish we knew that before booking during a heat wave.
Aug 23, 2023 · Megan DuncanThis is a beautiful, spacious campground with huge pine trees and lots of birds. Very nice bathrooms, well maintained. No hook-ups but also less expensive because of this. I loved this place. It is about a mile from the marina.
