This campground is a true gem, tucked away in a valley that offers a backdrop of jagged peaks and a vibrant ecosystem. It’s a place that fosters long-term memories and friendships, with many campers returning year after year to enjoy its peaceful and beautiful setting. This article will provide a detailed look at what makes Double Cabin Campground a cherished destination for a genuine Wyoming adventure.
Double Cabin Campground is a small, quiet campground with only 14 sites, ensuring a sense of solitude and space. Unlike many crowded parks, most sites here have a buffer of trees, providing natural shade and a sense of privacy. This intentional design creates a peaceful atmosphere that allows campers to truly relax and enjoy their surroundings. The campground is nestled on the edge of the Washakie Wilderness, offering a perfect blend of a wild setting with the convenience of car camping. The incredible scenery is the "real gem" here, with a stunning valley that is so beautiful, photos simply can't do it justice. The presence of open-range cattle and even cowboys at work adds to the authentic Wyoming feel, making the experience feel truly special. This campground is perfect for mountain climbers, day hikers, or anyone looking for a taste of wilderness beauty while still being somewhat close to a town. It's a place to make friends and share stories, as the community of returning campers is a significant part of the experience.
Double Cabin Campground is located at Dubois, WY 82513, USA. While the address seems simple, it's important to know that the campground is "tucked in" and requires a scenic drive to reach. From Dubois, you'll take Forest Road 285 north for about 28 miles to get there. This drive can take nearly an hour, but it is well worth it, as the journey itself is part of the adventure. The campground is situated at the end of the road, which contributes to its secluded feel. It is surrounded by the Absaroka mountains and borders the Washakie Wilderness, a true hidden gem of Wyoming. For those traveling in an RV, it's important to note that the campground has a maximum RV length of 30 feet. On-site parking is available for both RVs and tents, making it easy to set up your camp. The area is known as grizzly bear country, so proper food storage and safety precautions are essential. The campground provides bear-proof containers at most sites for this reason.

Double Cabin Campground Reviews
The camp hosts are the best. Cleanest vault toilet I’ve ever seen. This is our favorite place to go camping. So many people come back every year that you make friends with them and look forward to seeing them again the next year. 15 years of memories so far!
August 31 · KK Travis (KK)Campground is nice and tucked in. Most sites have a buffer of trees, creating shade and whatnot. Not too crowded together. Standard amenities like fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, potable water, and bear boxes. The real gem here is the incredible scenery. Pictures can't really tell the tale but as you can see, this valley is a thing of beauty. There are more open sites down below the campground but a lot of them look to be for outfitters as there were a lot of horse and mule guides. Truly real life cowboys a workin'! Tons of open range cattle too, so don't freak out at night when you hear them rustling around and mooing like crazy! My bro and I ended up staying in a primitive sure just up the road on the left before you get down to the campground but beware weary, it is pretty but definitely Grizzly area for sure!
September 18 · Kirk ChapmanStayed there for 7days.... a great horse camp with good corrals..remote area used mostly by outfitters and locals...long and slow 24 mile ride in.. but had no problems with our trailers ..I love that its remote... never seen another horse rider the whole week but one outfitter going up to get ready for hunting season...
