Digit Point Campground Introduce
For Oregonians drawn to the tranquility of a lakeside retreat amidst towering pines and the promise of outdoor adventure, Digit Point Campground offers a truly picturesque escape. Located on the southern shore of the stunning Miller Lake within the expansive Fremont-Winema National Forest, this campground is a beloved destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Central Oregon. It's a place where the fresh mountain air, the shimmering waters of the lake, and the backdrop of Mount Thielsen create an idyllic setting for camping, fishing, hiking, and simply unwinding. While renowned for its beauty and a fantastic trail that circles the lake, visitors should be prepared for the realities of wilderness camping, including a notable mosquito presence during certain months. Nonetheless, for those who embrace the wild, Digit Point Campground promises memorable experiences and breathtaking starry nights.
Digit Point Campground is ideally situated approximately 35 minutes west of Chemult, Oregon, within the vast Fremont-Winema National Forest. The official address is NF-9772, Chemult, OR 97731, USA, which refers to the Forest Service road leading directly to the campground. To reach this serene lakeside spot, travelers should take U.S. Highway 97 north from Chemult for about one mile, then turn left onto Forest Service (FS) Road 9772. This road will lead directly to the campground beside Miller Lake. While the journey culminates in a truly beautiful setting, it's crucial for visitors, especially those in RVs, to note that some GPS systems or online maps might suggest routes over unmaintained or difficult roads. It is strongly advised to stick to the main Forest Service Road 9772, which is generally suitable for RVs, though caution and awareness of current road conditions are always recommended. The accessibility from Highway 97, combined with its secluded lakeside location, makes Digit Point Campground a prime choice for Oregonians seeking a peaceful forest and lake experience that feels wonderfully remote yet remains within reach.
As a campground managed by the US Forest Service, Digit Point offers a range of essential amenities designed to support a comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience, while maintaining the natural integrity of the forest. The campground focuses on providing key facilities that enhance primitive and semi-developed camping, rather than extensive hookups. This approach encourages campers to appreciate the natural setting and practice responsible outdoor ethics. The availability of clean restroom facilities, including both flush and vault toilets, is a significant convenience often highlighted by visitors. Furthermore, the presence of an RV dump station is a valuable service for those traveling in recreational vehicles, allowing for proper waste disposal. While not offering individual site hookups for water or electricity, potable water is available, ensuring campers have access to clean drinking water. These services collectively contribute to a well-maintained and user-friendly environment, making Digit Point a popular choice for a diverse range of campers.
Services Offered:
- 65 Single Campsites: Primarily RV sites (64 of 65), also suitable for tent camping, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Digit Point Campground is celebrated for its stunning natural features and the array of recreational opportunities it offers. The "beautiful" setting on Miller Lake is consistently praised, with many campsites offering scenic views of the lake and the majestic Mount Thielsen. The dense growth of mixed conifers, including hemlock, white pine, white fir, and sugar pine, provides abundant shade, creating a cool and inviting atmosphere, especially during warmer months. This natural canopy also supports a rich diversity of wildlife, with osprey, eagles, loons, and grebes being local residents, making it a fantastic spot for birdwatching. For hikers, the five-mile Miller Lake Trail loop provides an excellent opportunity to explore parts of the adjacent Mount Thielsen Wilderness, and it also offers access to the renowned Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and the Maidu Trail, inviting longer adventures. Anglers will find Miller Lake particularly appealing, known for its brown, rainbow, and brook trout, as well as Kokanee salmon, with the unique advantage of 24-hour fishing. Despite the "horrendous" mosquitoes during June and July, the natural beauty and the "amazing stars" on clear nights more than compensate for this minor inconvenience, making Digit Point a truly remarkable outdoor destination.

Digit Point Campground Reviews
I love it here it’s beautiful and has an awesome trail all the way around the lake BUT the mosquitos are HORRENDOUS!
Jun 18, 2025 · KayceeThis campground was recommended by a ranger at Crater lake. Google maps took us on an unmaintained road. My fault for thinking we could get the RV through. BEWARE. We got stuck and broke the tail pipe.We did have a beautiful night with amazing stars on the bright side.
Jul 19, 2024 · Hans GritschVery nice area. Campground was primitive with water and restrooms but was well maintained and located between the boat launch and swim area. A lot of good sized fish although I want prepared and didn't have worms with me.
Jul 18, 2022 · John Meeker (Jackal97603)Maps is incorrect on the location of this campground. The best way to accurately get here is to look for Digit Point Day Use Area or for Miller Lake. Great campground, lots of lake view sites as well as decent sized sites. Potable water readily available. $12 per night for one vehicle and tent camping. No fire wood available for purchase when I went so I'd recommend bringing some with you.
Sep 10, 2019 · Alex SpencerLast time I went to digit point I got a huge 25 inch rainbow. It tried to steel my fishing pole and I had to go out and get it back. Waist deep water fighting a fish for about 10 minutes. It was pretty nice.
