Desolation Hotel Campground Reviews
The most incredible camping experience we’ve had! Location was perfect. We enjoyed hiking, rock climbing, and even fishing in the immediate area. In terms of facilities they are quite literally the cleanest bathrooms and showers we have ever seen in a campground. Our campsite was within ear shot of a river and it was the perfect noise to fall asleep to. Best of all the camp hosts are super kind, helpful, and welcoming. We will absolutely be staying here every time we come to the Tahoe area!
Jun 04, 2024 · Alexandra GerdischWe stayed at Desolation Hotel Campground with our family of 4 and dog. Site 15, book it! There is nice slow trickle stream with waterfall in the campsite. We can’t say enough about how great the entire campground is from the people, to the facilities, scenery, location, and easy access to South Lake Tahoe. The bathhouse was super clean and included flushing toilets, showers with hot water and plenty of pressure. Sometimes campground showers can be nasty, not these!!! They had nice, new shower curtains along with teak wood floors and shelves. At check in, we received a new campground map that was very easy to read while still giving us great directions for all that camp had to offer: hiking, picnic areas, streams, swimming holes, and a little market/bar. When we arrived in our campsite there was wood in the fire ring along with starter. It’s a nice touch to make you feel welcome. The campground hosts were incredibly accommodating, you can tell they really care about the camp and all of the guests. They had a nice mix of being present when you needed something and giving us the space we hoped for while camping. They did let us know if we wanted to go to Lake Tahoe that we could get tickets at the front desk of the hotel to get in to the private beach area close to their sister hotel in SLT! It made it super easy to head up for the day and get a spot on the beach.Just imagine a morning cup of coffee, sitting on a bridge above a river full of waterfalls. That’s what you get every morning. I can’t recommend Desolation Hotel Campground enough, we will be back and probably stay a little longer!
Jul 12, 2024 · Rob PhillipsThis is a gem of a campground nestled in the Hope Valley. You are surrounded by aspen (fall colors!) and the Carson River. The new management has taken great pains to make it a wonderful experience. Sites are beautifully maintained and there are many amenities. To top it off, the camp hosts are the nicest possible people and worked hard to make our stay memorable.Sites are on the smaller side but our trailer still fit well and it was great having partial hookups. Can’t wait to go back!
Oct 10, 2024 · S HWe can't say enough good things about this campground! We had one of the back-in sites with electric/H20 hookups and it was perfect for our 23ft RV. Although the sites are pretty close together, they still feel private and come with their own table and fire pit (with wood and starter!)The hosts Kelly and Zach were so welcoming and even spent time helping us understand more about our rental RV - seriously two of the nicest people you will ever meet!Staying at this campground was one of the highlights of our 10 day trip through Northern California and we will 100% be back next season (for more than 1 night this time!)
Oct 09, 2024 · Connor NaaszThis was an amazing place! The campground is well groomed and beautiful! Quiet and peaceful. The camp hosts helped us park our fifth wheel, and were so accommodating. This campground is situated in the Carson Pass! We plan to return for another adventure!
