Deschutes River State Recreation Area Campground Reviews
Beautiful park! Bathrooms are clean. Rangers are around a lot and are so friendly and helpful. Great hiking loops, although trails are not well maintained. Ice is available on-site, $3 per bag. Watch out for rattlesnakes and ticks, we saw both during our stay.
Jun 25, 2025 · Amy PraudinsWhat a pretty place! We rode our bikes around the park. My husband took his bike up a trail and saw a rattlesnake, so just be aware. Also, the bathrooms need to be de-spidered. Spiders were everywhere.
May 22, 2025 · Debbie RiderI stayed overnight on Wednesday, August 7th.This is a very large park, running along side the Deschutes river. Unfortunately, with very little water access to the river. Also note that the majority of the river bank is lined with big huge rocks. See my attached photos. While this park has RV spots. It has large open areas for large groups of tent campers.During my visit, one area alone hosted 2 bus loads of school kids.As shown in my photos. Bathrooms and showers could be cleaned better and are in need of some maintenance. I noted a lot of broken shower tiles...On side note. Stay away from RV space A2 if possible. As it's right next to the non reservation check in booth. Poeple come in late at night and aren't exactly polite with closing their doors and speaking quietly...
Sep 26, 2024 · Kolbe's TravelsWell kept campground with solid amenities, and pretty close to the river and the Dalles. Unfortunately we had freight trains about 500 yards away blaring through the night. So that kind of ruined things a bit. The park is well shaded with lots of trees, and grass is well watered so it's very lush. But I wouldn't really use it for much more than a stop on my way someplace else.
Jun 13, 2025 · Justin McCarleyThis is a beautiful park right along the Deschutes River before it meets the Columbia. It is full of shade trees and has places to get into the water. If you are into birds, we saw lots of different smaller birds, geese, blue heron and pelicans. The only downsides to this campground is that it is right off the freeway so road traffic is pretty significant and the trains also run right by the campground and are very load. Ear plugs will drown out the car noise at night. First night the trains woke me up each time but second night I slept through all but one. It can also get windy so be sure to anchor everything down.
