Dekkas Rock Group Campground Introduce
For Californians looking to gather their friends, family, or fellow adventurers for an unforgettable outdoor experience, Dekkas Rock Group Campground on Shasta Lake in Lakehead offers a truly exceptional setting. This dedicated group campground is the perfect answer for those planning larger gatherings, where shared memories are made under the vast skies of Northern California. It’s a versatile destination, ideal for everything from extended camping trips to vibrant day-use activities like fishing and leisurely walks. Nestled within the breathtaking landscape surrounding Shasta Lake, Dekkas Rock provides a unique blend of seclusion and accessibility, making it a highly desirable choice for locals who cherish both community and nature.
Dekkas Rock Group Campground is particularly renowned for its ability to host larger parties, providing ample space and a sense of privacy that can be hard to find in individual campsites. Its allure lies in its "nice and secluded" atmosphere, which is highly valued by groups seeking to enjoy their time together without feeling overcrowded. The primary highlight, however, remains its unparalleled connection to Shasta Lake. This majestic body of water is not only visually stunning but also offers some of the "best fishing" in California, making Dekkas Rock an angler's paradise. While it’s always wise to "check local water levels before going" as Shasta Lake can experience significant fluctuations, the opportunity to enjoy this iconic lake—whether for fishing, exploring, or simply admiring the views—is a major draw. Visitors consistently note that the campground is "best when the lake is full," showcasing the full splendor of this unique California gem.
Dekkas Rock Group Campground is conveniently located on Gilman Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA. This places it within the vast and beautiful Shasta-Trinity National Forest, specifically on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake. For many Californians, especially those in the northern and central parts of the state, this location offers a manageable drive for group outings and extended vacations.
Access to Dekkas Rock Group Campground is generally straightforward. From Interstate 5, travelers typically take exit 698 (Salt Creek Rd./Gilman Rd.) and then proceed for several miles east on Gilman Road until they reach the campground. While Gilman Road might have varying conditions (some sections can be unpaved or less maintained), it is generally navigable for most vehicles suitable for camping. Its proximity to Lakehead means that while the campground itself feels secluded, essential services and supplies are not too far away.
A crucial aspect of accessibility to keep in mind for Dekkas Rock, as highlighted by visitors, is the fluctuating water levels of Shasta Lake. "Shasta lake can get very low," which "makes getting to the water a bit of a hike." This means that direct, easy waterfront access might vary depending on the season and drought conditions. Groups should be prepared for potential walks down to the water's edge, but the reward of reaching the lake and its excellent fishing opportunities remains. Despite this variability, the journey to Dekkas Rock places your group directly into a stunning, forested environment with ample space for collective enjoyment and memorable outdoor activities, all within a reasonable reach for many California residents.

Great place for day walks, day fishing, and overnight camping. Check local water levels before going, Shasta lake can get very low. This makes getting to the water a bit of a hike.
Dec 27, 2021 · Chris HansonNice and secluded! Best when lake is full! Can't beat Shasta lake for fishing!
Aug 11, 2017 · Matt C in ReddingPerfectly tucked away from everyone. Great family experience. A little smokey from neighboring fires but overall not too bad. Not too hot with a nice breeze during the day & not too chilly at night. The kids had a blast running around and we didn't have to be concerned with bothering other campers which made it even better for them. The restrooms were clean for being in the middle of the Forrest. Bear proof trash cans & bears lockers made it interesting. No bear sights though 😕 but the bees were a little overwhelming. Know better for next time to bring the bee traps. Double sink made washing dishes a lot easier. Everyone had their own space & really enjoyed our weekend. Definitely recommend even if you're not in a large group.
Aug 23, 2021 · Heather MeninaPrivate campground that is perfect for a large group. Nice view of the lake, the campground was clean, had 2 vessel type restrooms, many nice areas for your tent or to park your trailer.. and there a few lock boxes for food.
Oct 26, 2020 · Jay CanBeautiful place to go, but I thought that the campground was lacking. Many of the camp spots were in disrepair. Certainly needs attention and better maintenance.
