Deer Lake Campground

Campground ★4.0

1037 Division St, Deer River, MN 56636, USA

4.0
It poured rain on us almost the entire time we were there - but it was still beautiful! Vault toilets are vault toilets, but they were as clean as they get and well stocked. The camp host actually called me before my stay to make sure I didn't want a site closer to the swimming beach - which is just above and beyond! I definitely felt like the area was well looked after, which was nice when traveling in remote areas with your kiddos. - Elizabeth Brown

The consistently positive feedback, including praise for the camp host who goes "above and beyond" and the cleanliness of facilities even in inclement weather, speaks volumes about the dedication to visitor satisfaction. Location and Accessibility

Deer Lake Campground is beautifully situated on the west shore of Cut Foot Sioux Lake, located approximately 20 miles northwest of Deer River, MN 56636, USA. The official address provided (1037 Division St, Deer River, MN) is likely the administrative office for the Deer River Ranger District, which manages the campground. The actual campground entrance is accessed by taking Highway 46 northwest from Deer River, then turning four miles west on Eagle Nest Road (Forest Route 2198). You will pass East Seelye and West Seelye Campgrounds before reaching Deer Lake Campground on your left, with North Deer appearing first, followed by South Deer a half-mile further down the road.

The campground is thoughtfully split into two separate loops: North Deer Lake Campground, featuring 17 sites, and South Deer Lake Campground, offering 31 sites. This dual-loop design provides options for different preferences. A centrally located boat ramp between the loops offers convenient access to Cut Foot Sioux Lake via Biauswah Creek. This makes it an ideal spot for those bringing their own boats or kayaks. Additionally, North Deer Lake features a designated sandy swimming beach, with a smaller beach at South Deer Lake, ensuring easy access to refreshing waters for families.

While many sites are reservable via Recreation.gov (which is highly recommended, especially during peak seasons), some sites remain available on a first-come, first-served basis. The roads leading to the campground are well-maintained, allowing for easy access for both tents and various sizes of RVs and trailers (though specific site dimensions should be checked on Recreation.gov). The overall accessibility, combined with the tranquil remote setting, makes Deer Lake Campground a highly desirable destination for Minnesotans looking for a convenient yet wild escape.
