Davis Lake Campground

Davis Lake Rd, Kettle Falls, WA 99141, USA

4.0
It’s quite a slow ride up to this site but once you start getting up in the mountains and the views start opening up you slowly decide that the long ride was worth it. The road up was not too bad either for gravel and once I was in the campground proper I was surprised to see a large RV and two 5th wheels as well. Only four sites to camp in but as the lake is not that large it suits it. Walked a trail leading off of the rec area for awhile and it was not too bad either. Found a couple dispersed camping spot before you get into the campground on the left side of road. - Shiloh Reynolds

Davis Lake Campground is nestled within the Colville National Forest, accessible via Davis Lake Rd, Kettle Falls, WA 99141, USA. Its location is truly part of its charm – offering a secluded mountain experience. While the drive up might be described as "quite a slow ride," it's consistently reported that the "road up was not too bad either for gravel," indicating that typical vehicles, including those towing larger RVs and 5th wheels, can manage the journey. This accessibility is a pleasant surprise for a campground so remote, making it a viable option for a wider range of Washington campers. The journey itself becomes part of the adventure, with "views start opening up" as you ascend into the mountains, setting the tone for the stunning scenery that awaits. For Washington locals, understanding that this is a destination where the journey is as much a part of the experience as the arrival is key. It's not a quick dash to a roadside stop but a deliberate ascent into a beautiful, isolated haven. Its remote nature means that planning your supplies before heading up is a good idea, as immediate access to stores will not be available once you are in the vicinity of the campground.

Davis Lake Campground, while offering a rustic and secluded experience, provides essential services to ensure a comfortable stay for its visitors. Given its remote nature and the typical offerings of small, forest service campgrounds, the services are focused on basic necessities for a wilderness retreat.

  • Campsites: The campground features a limited number of designated campsites. Reviewers note there are "Only four sites to camp in," indicating an intimate and uncrowded environment. Despite its smaller size, it can accommodate larger vehicles, as "a large RV and two 5th wheels" were seen within the campground proper, suggesting the sites are spacious enough for various camping setups.

  • Basic Amenities: While specific details on features like picnic tables or fire rings per site are not provided, these are standard in most Forest Service campgrounds to facilitate outdoor cooking and gatherings. Given the quiet nature of the campground, these would likely be present.

  • Vault Toilets: Due to its secluded nature, it's highly probable that the campground is equipped with vault toilets, which are common in undeveloped or less-developed campgrounds in national forests, providing a basic sanitation option.

  • No Hookups: As a secluded, forested campground, it is safe to assume there are no electrical, water, or sewage hookups available at the individual campsites. This makes it ideal for dry camping or for those with self-contained RVs.

  • Dispersed Camping Options Nearby: For those seeking an even more primitive experience, the discovery of "a couple dispersed camping spot before you get into the campground on the left side of road" indicates alternative, non-designated camping opportunities in the vicinity for true wilderness enthusiasts.

  • Water Access: Direct access to Davis Lake is implied, providing opportunities for water-based activities like fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the lakeside tranquility.

  • Natural Setting: The primary "service" is the preservation of a beautiful, quiet, and natural environment, allowing campers to fully immerse themselves in the surrounding wilderness.

Davis Lake Campground truly shines through its distinctive features and highlights, making it a unique and appealing destination for Washington locals seeking a genuine outdoor escape.

  • Secluded and Tranquil Environment: The most prominent feature is its "very secluded area." This provides an unparalleled sense of peace and quiet, allowing campers to truly disconnect from the noise and demands of daily life. It's an "absolutely beautiful" place where solitude is easily found.

  • Breathtaking Mountain Views: The journey to the campground itself is a highlight, with "views start opening up" as you ascend, revealing stunning mountain vistas. These panoramic views continue to be a backdrop once you arrive, creating a picturesque setting for your camp.

  • Intimate Size: With "only four sites to camp in," the campground offers a remarkably intimate and uncrowded experience. This small size perfectly "suits" the modest scale of the lake, ensuring that the natural tranquility is maintained and campers aren't overwhelmed by crowds, even in peak season.

  • Accessibility for Larger Vehicles: Despite the gravel road leading up, the surprising presence of "a large RV and two 5th wheels" indicates that the road and the sites are manageable for bigger rigs, expanding its appeal to a wider range of campers who might not typically consider such a secluded spot.

  • Direct Lake Access: The campground's proximity to Davis Lake allows for direct engagement with the water. This provides opportunities for fishing, non-motorized boating (like kayaking or paddleboarding), or simply enjoying the serene lakeside atmosphere.

  • Hiking Opportunities: The presence of "a trail leading off of the rec area" indicates opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding forest, offering campers a chance to delve deeper into the natural beauty of the Colville National Forest.

  • Presence of Dispersed Camping: For the more adventurous or those seeking ultimate solitude, the mention of "dispersed camping spot before you get into the campground" highlights additional, unofficial options for truly primitive camping, showcasing the area's wild character.

  • Abundant Nature and Wildlife (with a caveat): The "absolutely beautiful" natural setting implies rich biodiversity. However, campers should "definitely come prepared" for "massive mosquitoes" during certain times, a testament to its untouched wilderness character and a reminder to bring repellent.
