We stopped here for a couple of nights on a trip to Georgia. The RV sites are small - be sure that you check the size of the site so that your trailer will fit! (I was able to secure one of the largest sites at 26', very close to the bathhouse.) Our trailer fit fine, but in terms of site space, we had very little - not enough room to set up our clamshell around the picnic table. The bathhouse facility was clean, if small. Only 2 shower units means you need to be quick to get in!If you're here, you're going to see Cumberland Falls. If not, what are you doing? But don't forget to visit some of the others, too: Eagle Falls, Dog Slaughter Falls. The hikes have a good deal of elevation change, so be prepared. If it has rained, be ready to have some muddy shoes. But it'll be worth it.As a humorous aside, we here hiking to Eagle Falls when a thunderstorm cell came in. When we got back to the RV, we discovered the power was out to the whole campground! On a hot and already humid day, we knew we didn't want to sit in the camper with 5 folks and no AC, so we sat under the awning and enjoyed the rain and each other's company. Sometimes things go this way - find ways to make the most of it! - Roy Henry

Cumberland Falls RV Campground Introduce

Hello, fellow Kentucky adventurers! Are you searching for a memorable camping experience nestled deep within the breathtaking beauty of our state's natural landscape? Look no further than Cumberland Falls RV Campground, a unique destination that promises a true immersion into the wild heart of Kentucky. This article will guide you through what makes this campground a special place for local campers, highlighting its proximity to iconic natural landmarks and the facilities it offers. While it caters to a specific type of RVer, its charm lies in its connection to the stunning environment that surrounds it.

Cumberland Falls RV Campground, located within the renowned Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, offers a rustic yet rewarding experience for those who appreciate nature's grandeur. It's a place where the sounds of the forest replace city noise, and the wonders of the "Niagara of the South" are just a stone's throw away. This campground isn't just about parking your RV; it's about embracing the rugged beauty of Kentucky, from challenging hikes to the awe-inspiring moonbow at Cumberland Falls. It's an ideal spot for those with smaller RVs or travel trailers who are eager to explore the magnificent outdoors.

While some RV sites are designed for more compact setups, the overall experience at Cumberland Falls RV Campground is enriched by the pristine natural surroundings and the excellent maintenance of its core facilities. It's a destination that encourages you to unplug, explore, and create lasting memories amidst some of Kentucky's most spectacular scenery. The park’s emphasis on cleanliness, especially in its bathhouses and laundry facilities, ensures a comfortable stay even in a more wilderness-oriented setting.

Cumberland Falls RV Campground is uniquely situated at RMQ9+XV, Honeybee, KY 40769, USA, placing it directly within the expansive Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. This location is paramount to its appeal, as it provides immediate access to one of Kentucky’s most iconic natural attractions – Cumberland Falls itself. The campground is approximately a mile’s drive from the main lodge and the famous waterfall, allowing campers to easily visit the falls and its numerous overlooks.

The accessibility of the campground, however, comes with a few considerations for RV drivers. The last 7 miles of the road leading into and out of the state park are noted for being very hilly and winding, with numerous blind curves. This particular stretch requires careful navigation, especially for those towing travel trailers. Driving this section at night is strongly advised against, particularly given that the area is known for deer and bear activity, posing additional hazards.

While the location offers unparalleled access to natural wonders, it's also important to note its relative seclusion from urban amenities. The nearest restaurants are approximately 15-17 miles away in the town of Corbin, just off I-75. This means campers should plan meals accordingly, especially if they prefer dining out rather than cooking at their campsite. Despite the distance from town, the beauty of the surrounding rugged, forested landscape truly compensates, offering a deeply immersive nature experience that many seek.

For those who prioritize proximity to nature and outdoor activities, the campground's strategic location within the state park is a significant advantage. It allows for spontaneous adventures to hiking trails and waterfalls, making it a perfect base for exploring the wild heart of Kentucky.

Cumberland Falls RV Campground provides essential services aimed at making your camping experience comfortable and convenient, particularly given its natural, somewhat remote setting.

  • Clean Bathhouse Facilities: Campers consistently praise the bathhouse for its cleanliness, a critical factor for any campground. Despite being small (with only two shower units), the facility is maintained to a high standard, offering a refreshing and hygienic experience. The air conditioning in the bathhouse is also a welcome relief, especially during warmer Kentucky days, and the water pressure and temperature are comparable to a high-quality hotel.

  • Laundry Room: For those on longer trips or after particularly muddy hikes, the on-site laundry room is a valuable amenity. Like the bathhouse, it's noted for being spotlessly clean and air-conditioned, providing comfort while you take care of chores.

  • Power and Water Hookups: The campground offers power and water hookups at each site. However, it's important to note that these outlet boxes are shared between adjoining sites. Campers with longer cords and hoses may find this challenging, so it's advisable to come prepared with extensions if your setup requires a greater reach from the shared utility post.

  • Camp Store: Check-in for the RV campground is handled at a camp store located at the entrance. This store is also described as spotlessly clean and staffed by friendly personnel, providing a convenient point for initial registration and potentially stocking up on basic supplies or souvenirs.

Cumberland Falls RV Campground, while modest in size for RVs, boasts several key features and highlights that truly make it a standout destination for specific types of campers, particularly those focused on embracing the natural beauty of Kentucky.

  • Unbeatable Proximity to Cumberland Falls: This is arguably the biggest draw. The campground is just about a mile's drive from Cumberland Falls, allowing campers easy and frequent access to the breathtaking "Niagara of the South" and the unique phenomenon of the moonbow. This unparalleled access is a major advantage for nature photographers, sightseers, and anyone wanting to experience this natural wonder without a long commute.

  • Access to Extensive Hiking Trails: Beyond Cumberland Falls, the campground serves as a prime base for exploring a network of diverse hiking trails. Campers can readily access trails leading to other stunning waterfalls like Eagle Falls and Dog Slaughter Falls. These trails offer varying degrees of difficulty and elevation changes, appealing to hikers of all experience levels. Be prepared for potentially muddy conditions after rain, but the scenic rewards are well worth it.

  • Horseback Riding Opportunities: Just a quarter-mile up the road from the camp store, the state park features a horseback riding corral. This provides an excellent opportunity for campers to enjoy the forested trails from a different perspective, adding another layer of outdoor activity to their stay.

  • Immaculately Clean Facilities: A consistent highlight from customer reviews is the exceptional cleanliness of the bathhouses and laundry room. These facilities are not only spotless but also air-conditioned, providing a comfortable and refreshing experience that often exceeds expectations for a state park campground.

  • Stunningly Beautiful and Rugged Surroundings: The entire area surrounding the campground is characterized by its rugged, beautifully forested landscape. This provides a truly immersive nature experience, with abundant wildlife and scenic vistas. For those seeking an escape into the wilderness, the serene and unpopulated countryside is a significant draw.

  • Caters to Smaller RVs and Experienced Drivers: While this might be a limitation for some, it's a key feature. The campground's smaller sites and narrow, winding access roads mean it’s perfectly suited for travel trailers up to 25 feet and Class B motorhomes up to 30 feet. This creates a more intimate and less crowded environment, appealing to those who prefer a cozier camping experience. Experienced RV drivers will find navigating the sites manageable, making it an ideal spot for those comfortable with precise maneuvering.

The meticulously clean bathhouses and laundry facilities further enhance the comfort of your stay, proving that a wilderness experience doesn't mean sacrificing essential amenities.

In essence, Cumberland Falls RV Campground is perfect for locals seeking a genuine Kentucky outdoor adventure. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the everyday, immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of our state's natural landscapes, and create lasting memories without straying too far from home.
