We stayed at this campground recently and had a pretty rough experience. There were several groups of drunk young people around us—blasting music, yelling, and smoking weed and cigarettes until about 3 AM. It felt like we were totally surrounded, and there was no staff around to do anything about it. The lake is absolutely beautiful and the nature around is great, but the noise really took away from the whole vibe. - Alex

Cultus Lake Campground Introduce

Nestled within the stunning Deschutes National Forest, Cultus Lake Campground stands as a prime destination for Oregonians seeking a vibrant and engaging outdoor experience. This isn't just a place to set up your tent; it's a hub for water sports, scenic beauty, and direct access to some of Central Oregon's most beloved natural landscapes. While popular, Cultus Lake offers a unique blend of active recreation and natural serenity, making it a favorite for many local campers.

Cultus Lake is particularly distinguished among the Cascade Lakes for being one of the few that permits high-speed motorized watercraft. This makes it a haven for those who enjoy waterskiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and other exhilarating lake activities. Beyond the thrill of the water, the surrounding forest provides ample opportunities for hiking and exploring, including access to the vast Three Sisters Wilderness. As with any popular spot, it's worth noting that the atmosphere can be lively, especially during peak seasons. However, with spacious campsites and the sheer beauty of the lake, Cultus Lake Campground continues to draw visitors back year after year.

Location and Accessibility

Cultus Lake Campground is conveniently located in the Deschutes National Forest, with its address listed as Forest Service Rd 120, Blue River, OR 97413, USA. While the provided address offers a general vicinity, the campground is more commonly approached via the scenic Cascade Lakes Highway (Highway 46).

To reach Cultus Lake Campground from Bend, Oregon, travelers typically head about 46 miles southwest on the Cascade Lakes Highway (46), then proceed west on Forest Road 4635 for approximately 2 miles. This route takes you through a breathtaking landscape of pine forests and other high-elevation lakes, offering a preview of the natural beauty that awaits. The Cascade Lakes Highway is a seasonal road, usually open from June through October, depending on snowmelt and weather conditions, so checking road status before your trip is highly recommended. The campground is easily accessible by vehicle, with paved parking areas and boat ramps adjacent to the main campground. For those seeking even more seclusion, there are also boat-in campgrounds on the west side of the lake, offering a more private experience away from the main hub.
