Cozy Cove Campground

Boise National Forest, Forest Rd 555F, Cascade, ID 83611, USA

4.0
This place is fairly remote but well visited. Some amazing campsites. There are I think 3 main routes into the reservoir. All have a short stretch where it's a one way track with a steep incline on both sides of the road where you really hope you don't run into someone coming the other way. The roads in are closed during the winter months. On the Cozy Cove side of the lake there was no cell service. Rumor has it the other side of the lake has service but we didn't explore enough to find the way over there. I think we drove an hour back towards Garden Valley before our phones started to work as we came over a pass. Fishing from the shore is excellent with some fish stocked and a lot of native cutthroat trout. A lot of people fish for big fish from the boats. Sometimes a lot of motorized boats. You can reserve some of the improved sites. Vault toilets are clean and well maintained by the camp hosts. A big storm blew in one day and the camp host came around to check on everybody. Picnic tables in the campsite with level spots cleared for tents in most of the sites. Some are first come - first served. Weekdays are less crowded. Campsites are separated pretty well. Quite a few have access to the water. Experiences with other campers of course varies. We had some excellent neighbors and some who were a little less than considerate. We'd sit in our chairs where I took the video about sunset and watch the bats flying around above us. Several bald eagles and ospreys hunting. There's also a hot spring that you can hike to from near the dam that's about a 7 mile round trip. A lot of ebikes and motorized bikes and UTVs. Water pump near the entrance to the camp. - Ben Johnson
