While basic amenities define the experience, the emphasis is on a clean environment and the pure joy of being surrounded by Minnesota's natural splendor. Cottonwood Lake Campground is situated in Deer River, MN 56636, USA. This location places it firmly within the vast and beautiful landscape of Itasca County, an area renowned for its dense forests and countless lakes, forming the heart of Minnesota's Northwoods. While its precise coordinates within Deer River aren't listed as a street address, the general location within this region indicates it's accessible via well-maintained county and state roads.
The campground's appeal lies in its "out of the way" feel, suggesting it's not directly on a major thoroughfare, which contributes to its quiet atmosphere. The short "trail through the woods" to Cottonwood Lake ensures that the primary natural feature is always within easy reach. - Rustic Campsites: Cottonwood Lake Campground offers a number of designated campsites designed for a primitive, back-to-basics camping experience. These sites are well-suited for tent camping and potentially smaller, self-contained RVs or vans.
- No Hookups: It's important to note that this is a rustic campground with "no services" in terms of electric, water, or sewer hookups at the individual sites. Campers must be prepared to be self-sufficient.
- Hand-Operated Well Pump: The campground provides a hand-operated well pump for water. While this is a source of water, campers should be aware that, as noted in a review, there might be instances where the pump is "broke" or not functioning, so bringing your own water or having a backup plan for filtration/treatment is advisable.
- Vault Toilets: The only restroom amenity available is a vault toilet (commonly referred to as a "biffy" in Minnesota). These are non-flush toilets, typically maintained for cleanliness, as implied by the overall "clean campground" feedback.

Cottonwood Lake Campground Reviews
Had a great time camping, just me and the dogs, literally. There was one other site taken for 1 night. Otherwise all to ourselves. Amazing it was that way as the other campgrounds nearby I went to were packed. The sites are beautiful, some with lots of shade and some with sun. A hand operated well pump and vault toilet were the only amenities, other than a fire ring and picnic table. The lake and access are about 50 yards away with a trail through the woods.

Aug 29, 2024 · wes andersonNice little campground, was very quiet when we were here. Has a hand pump for water, vault toilet, and dumpster for trash. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with grate for cooking. Not a lot very close besides the lake, but good for a night out for us.
