Conestoga Lake SRA is one of the many "Salt Valley Lakes" managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, developed to provide a multitude of benefits including flood control, wildlife habitat, and, importantly, recreation. Over the years, significant improvements, including a complete overhaul of the lake and added amenities, have enhanced its appeal, making it a "much improved campground" according to recent reviews. This commitment to maintaining a clean and beautiful environment ensures that campers and day-use visitors alike can enjoy a high-quality outdoor experience, whether they are seasoned campers or just looking for a peaceful day by the water.

The balance of being somewhat secluded within a beautiful natural setting while still being highly connected to urban amenities ensures a relaxed and hassle-free outdoor experience for Nebraskans.

Conestoga Lake Campground, as part of Conestoga Lake State Recreation Area, boasts several features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for outdoor enthusiasts in Nebraska.
Features / Highlights:
- Conestoga Lake: The 230-acre lake is the centerpiece, offering a variety of water-based activities:
- Fishing: A revitalized fishery, thanks to a major aquatic habitat project completed in 2018, now offers excellent opportunities for catching largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and walleye. Multiple docks and new fishing piers, including ADA-accessible ones, provide ample casting spots.
- Boating: The lake welcomes various boats with a 5 mph (no-wake) speed limit, ensuring a calm and enjoyable environment for all watercraft, including kayaks and canoes.
- Swimming: While not explicitly detailed, state recreation areas with lakes often offer opportunities for swimming (though an unsupervised beach might be present, verification with park management is always advised).
- Extensive Trail System: The park features trails suitable for hiking and biking, allowing visitors to explore the scenic surroundings. This includes a planned limestone bike trail connecting to the Prairie Corridor Project.
- Clean and Well-Kept Park: Reviewers consistently praise the park for being "clean and kept up," reflecting the efforts of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in maintaining the area.
- "Somewhat Secluded" Atmosphere: Despite its proximity to Lincoln, the campground offers a sense of seclusion, allowing visitors to feel truly immersed in nature.
- Beautiful Scenery: The natural environment, with its mix of lake, prairie, woodland, and wetland, provides beautiful vistas, contributing to a relaxing atmosphere.
- Family-Friendly Environment: The presence of a playground makes it suitable for families with children.
- Wildlife and Birdwatching: The improved habitat around the lake, including a shallow wetland area, attracts migrating waterfowl and other wildlife, making it a good spot for nature observation.
- Year-Round Activities: While specific winter activities are not detailed, many Nebraska State Recreation Areas offer ice fishing or cross-country skiing when conditions permit.
It's worth noting the review regarding the lake's water level being "low for fishing" at one point; however, the recent aquatic habitat project suggests significant improvements have been made to address sedimentation and improve water quality and depth, which would positively impact fishing.

Conestoga Lake Campground Reviews
This is a fun and chill place to camp. We like it for an easy getaway location that's still close enough to run back home for things we forget. It's like a good warmup/first camp for the season.I do wish that they had better toilets - only vault toilets are available. Also, no full hookups. There are sites with electric, and there are spigots around, but no sites with dedicated water spigots and sewage dump.
Apr 27, 2025 · Warren KittlerIt's very beautiful and some what secluded. Park is clean and kept up. The water is low for fishing. There is also a fish cleaning station. But overall, it's a nice area to camp, have small events and fishing.
May 28, 2025 · Libby TuckerWhat a nice campground! Sites are gravel, but, level and some are long enough for our RV and "toad". Had power, no septic or water at our site but, dump was available. We were camping late in October so the water at the dump site was off. Bu no worries for us.Quiet, scenic area, that we had pretty much to ourselves due to the cold snap and the time of year.Plenty of trail to walk. We'd love to come back!
Oct 31, 2023 · Gina LandonBeautiful place, to have a barbecue with the family, fish, camp, there is a bathroom, lots of greenery! Relaxing! Go boating... (I didn't see anyone swimming) I don't know if it's possible!
May 20, 2025 · Meel CamposTook my new camper there for its maiden voyage and had a great time with family. Quiet and great weather the whole time. Did some fishing with kids and enjoyed the lake.
