Cherry Creek Campground Introduce
Tucked away on the banks of beautiful Hebgen Lake, Cherry Creek Campground offers a quintessential Montana camping experience. For those of us who live in Montana and value a quiet, natural escape, this spot is a fantastic option that balances a remote feel with essential amenities. It's a place where the stunning scenery is the main attraction, with clear views of the lake and the surrounding forested landscape. This campground is perfect for families, solo adventurers, and anyone looking to unplug and immerse themselves in the great outdoors. It's a serene setting where you can truly appreciate the breathtaking views and the peaceful atmosphere that Montana is famous for. While it may have a few quirks, its overall charm and beautiful location make it a beloved destination for many.
The campground provides a traditional, rustic camping experience, emphasizing self-reliance and a connection to nature. As a first-come, first-served campground managed by the Custer-Gallatin National Forest, it offers a more spontaneous and less-structured feel than a reservable resort. It's the kind of place where you can find a spot, set up your tent, and immediately feel a sense of calm. The sites are well-equipped with fire pits, tables, and bear-proof storage lockers, which are crucial for a safe and secure stay in bear country. The peaceful ambiance is one of its biggest draws, making it an ideal spot for those who want to get away from the noise and commotion of busier areas. The views of the lake are simply stunning, providing a constant reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds you.
Cherry Creek Campground is located on Denny Creek Rd, in the scenic area of West Yellowstone, MT 59758, USA. Its location places it right on the shores of Hebgen Lake, which is a major highlight for fishing and water activities. The road to the campground is gravel and can be "washboard pretty bad in places," as one reviewer notes. However, it is also important to know that "any type of vehicle can get into the campground," which is reassuring for those driving sedans or other 2WD vehicles. The drive is part of the experience, leading you to a secluded and beautiful setting that is well worth the effort.
The campground’s accessibility is straightforward, with on-site parking available at each campsite. This makes it easy to unload your gear and get settled in. While the sites by the water are in "pretty close quarters," there are also a couple of free, more primitive spots further up the road that offer greater privacy. This variety allows visitors to choose the type of camping experience that best suits their needs, whether they prefer to be close to the water or have more space to themselves. The location is ideal for those who want a true nature escape without being completely disconnected, as some cell service is available in the area. Its proximity to West Yellowstone means that you're not too far from town amenities, should you need to restock on supplies. This balance of being close to civilization yet feeling wonderfully remote is a key part of Cherry Creek's appeal.

What is worth choosing this Campground?
Choosing Cherry Creek Campground is a smart decision for anyone seeking a genuine, no-frills Montana camping experience with an unbeatable view. The primary reason to choose this spot is its beautiful lakeside location on Hebgen Lake. The stunning scenery, coupled with the peaceful, rustic atmosphere, provides the perfect escape from the stresses of daily life. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Nice campground right next to the lake. Good sites with views of the lake, fire pits, tables and bear proof storage lockers for those tent camping. Bathroom was spotless and there are trash receptacles also. No water taps..just the lake but I wouldn't drink it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because it has the worst mosquitos I have encountered all summer. Was there mid Aug '23. Cost is $20 per night or $10 if you have a Parks or Access Pass. Road in is gravel and can be washboard pretty bad in places but any type of vehicle can get into the campground.
August 13 · Flying DutchmanThere are about 6 spots by the water pretty close quarters...these spots are $16 for the single spots $32 for the double, check out is 2pm. Bathrooms. Trash Cans. No Water aside from Lake.*But up the road are a couple free spots if they arent taken.
August 12 · Kate CloudFree camp, actually we arrived late but there is huge places for canping so we asked a guy if we can share the place with him. It is nice lake there and the road is not so terrible as for similar camps in Yellowstone area.
August 13 · Josef SvobodaFound this hidden gem after being disappointed with hoe commercialized the KOA's in the area were. A bit of gravel and dirt roads but we made it on two sport bikes. Nice big lots with a good lake! A lot of mosquito's though so be prepared for that.If you're looking for real camping this is the place.
August 01 · Keifer MorkenLooks like a nice place to stay in the summer. We we're here in September woke up to snow on the ground. Road in is unpaved but our Class C handled with out too much trouble. Max 16 days stay.
