For Virginians seeking the perfect balance between nature's embrace and convenient access to our rich history and vibrant culture, Charlottesville KOA Holiday stands out as an exceptional choice. This well-loved campground, nestled in the scenic surroundings of Charlottesville, VA, offers a prime location for both seasoned RV travelers and traditional tent campers. It provides that comforting "state park" feeling with ample space and a serene environment, but with the added benefits of modern amenities that make any family trip more comfortable and enjoyable.
One of the most appealing aspects of Charlottesville KOA Holiday, frequently highlighted by fellow campers, is its ability to feel like a private, quiet retreat despite being part of a larger network. This sense of peace, combined with meticulously clean facilities and well-kept grounds, creates an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether you're looking for a tranquil spot to unwind by the woods or a convenient hub from which to explore the iconic attractions of central Virginia, this campground consistently delivers.
From the friendly and efficient check-in process to the well-stocked camp store, every detail at Charlottesville KOA Holiday is geared towards providing a seamless and memorable experience for locals. It's a testament to how modern camping facilities can blend harmoniously with the natural beauty and historical significance that define our beloved Commonwealth.
Charlottesville KOA Holiday is strategically located at 3825 Red Hill Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903, USA. This address places it just far enough outside the immediate hustle and bustle of downtown Charlottesville to offer a peaceful setting, yet it remains incredibly close to the area's most celebrated attractions. For Virginians, this means less time driving and more time enjoying their vacation.
Accessibility to the campground is straightforward, primarily via Interstate 64. Visitors are advised to take Exit 121 or 121A to Route 20 South, then proceed about 8 miles before turning right onto Route 708 (Red Hill Road). The campground will be approximately 1 mile down Red Hill Road on the right. Importantly, official recommendations strongly advise against using Exit 99 or 120 off I-64, as Plank Road (Exit 99) and Old Lynchburg Road (Exit 120) are known for being very narrow and curvy, potentially challenging for larger RVs and trailers. Following the recommended route ensures a much smoother arrival.
The location offers a prime advantage for exploring central Virginia. It provides easy access to the historic homes of Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's estate) and Highland (James Monroe's home), both just a short drive away. The campground is also conveniently situated for those wishing to explore the scenic wonders of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive, with access points roughly a half-hour away. This blend of historical immersion and natural beauty makes Charlottesville KOA Holiday an ideal base for a diverse Virginia vacation. The surrounding area is characterized by rolling hills, forested landscapes, and a pleasant, rural feel, ensuring a refreshing escape.

Charlottesville KOA Holiday Reviews
Great camping spot. It looks like all spots were roomy. We had a back in spot along the woods which was so private and serene and quiet, and very roomy. Even though it is a KOA, it has a small private campground feeling, almost like a state park but with additional amenities and full hookups. Bath houses were clean. Grounds were clean and well kept. Check-in staff was nice; process was easy. Camp store was well stocked. I'd stay there again. Close enough to Monticello and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but far enough away up in the mountains.
Apr 26, 2025 · Lori GalianoOvernight stop for us in our small camper. It was a week day so not busy, but on weekends it could seem crowded as sites were rather close. Overall campground needed a little TLC—but big plus—probably the nicest campground bathroom/shower that we have ever seen-clean, roomy, secure and very private. Campground was also an easy drive to Monticello and Charlottesville attractions.
May 13, 2025 · allyson robertsThanks KOA Charlottesville for a great Easter weekend. Loved the view, loved the peace & quiet. We had several good wine trips as well to close by vineyards. Staff was professional & kind. Will definitely go back 👍🙌🥳
Apr 24, 2025 · Shirley ScottGREAT LOCATION! Centered right near a lot of wineries. The staff was very friendly, the campground was clean, quiet, and well taken care of. We stayed in the deluxe cabin which was very nice. There were two AC wall units that worked well, one in the bedroom and the other in the kitchen. The cabin was spacious and had plenty of room. There was 1 full bed, 2 sets of bunk beds, and a futon. The full mattress was very soft in the middle, but otherwise the cabin was great.
Jun 30, 2024 · Britnee TerrillThe RV park is nicely shaded and offers full hookups. The staff is friendly. We stayed in #9, a pull-through site where we had good privacy and trees. The sewer hub was, unfortunately, too high for adequate drainage and a little difficult to access from the rear of our RV. We used the laundry room, which was clean and in working order. We recommend getting to this park well before sunset, as the area is super dark and access roads are narrow and curvy.
