Champlain Resort Reviews
Definitely enjoyed this quiet campground for a weekend getaway from work. Owners were both very friendly. The husband helps you back up the trailer and is great at communicating turns etc… The site had full hookups, was very quiet and peaceful, and in close proximity to local beaches. Enjoyed our stayed and our neighbors were very friendly!
Aug 08, 2024 · Alexander SweetWe rented a tent site by the orchard at this campground and it was spacious, quiet, and relaxing. Restrooms were very clean and accessible from all areas on the grounds. The hosts were super friendly, kind, and inviting we really enjoyed meeting them. Also, they are dog friendly we had 1 dog with us whom also enjoyed the quiet, slow paced environment and fresh air. We didn't get a chance to access the lake or beach area this visit but we will get there next time. There are plenty of shady or sunny areas to choose from and at night you can hear the breeze through the giant trees throughout the grounds. Certainly worth a visit if you've never been, we are certainly going back again this summer.
May 28, 2024 · meghan tennantDon’t miss the opportunity to stay here. The name is a little misleading- they have changed their sign to say Champlain Resort Campground which I think suits it better. The campground owners live in their house right on site. They are SO friendly and stop by your site to make sure everything is satisfactory and to give suggestions on what to do locally. They purposefully don’t fill all of the sites so it’s very private and never feels busy. Lots of friendly folks stay there long term, so you see the same people walking to the water each night to watch the INCREDIBLE sunset. The ferry to NY state is right next door so all day and all night you can watch and hear the low note of the diesel ferry chug back and forth- it’s really quite a charming feature. We stayed 3 nights in early June and can’t wait to go back one day. I’ve never been so relaxed at a campground.
Aug 25, 2024 · Lee HastingsWe wanted to stay somewhere nice on the water so I requested a waterfront site, but was told that those are reserved for RV’s less than 24 ft. I was told that I would be given an interior site with a beautiful view of the water. Upon arrival, Emma checked us in and JC escorted us to our campsite. I am not fond of being escorted to a site, especially when I could visually see my site, but I later discovered why they do this. JC wanted to make sure that while backing in, I didn’t touch the grass. He began to rattle off a list of “do and do nots”. It was a big turn off and I immediately felt unwelcome. I have been camping all my life and I have never been treated like this. I understand having rules, but the condescending manner did not sit well with me. Some of the rules were; no spikes in the grass, no mats on the ground, if I place anything on the grass, make sure to rotate it daily so the crab grass doesn’t die. The site was very un-level, my neighbor also commented about his un-level site, he noted that he had to use a lot of wood and wondered if JC would say anything to him. The electrical pedestal have no breaker switch, which means you plug/unplug into a hot circuit. I was very disappointed with our site location, we couldn’t see the water, it faced oncoming traffic (headlights in our face when sitting at our fire). Our “beautiful” view was the road and our neighbors’ RV. I walked over to the waterfront sites, and saw they were mostly permanent residents with Airstreams much larger than 24 ft. There was a travel trailer on one of those sites that was much larger than 24 ft., our RV is 27 feet and would have easily fit. There were two empty waterfront sites the whole time we were there. The bathhouse needs an update, there were no paper towel dispensers or hand dryers in the bathrooms. In regards to their website, it states “Our spacious private sites….” and … “orchards provide spacious campsites with ample shade and privacy”. Our site didn’t have any shade trees and it wasn’t private. I could clearly see every site around us, and they were all very close. The website also says, “we handle household trash and recyclables free of charge.”I’ve been camping a long time and have never had to pay this fee so I am not sure why it’s mentioned. By the way, it is not free; it is included in the camping cost (which isn’t cheap). If you are a light sleeper, be aware that the nearby ferry runs 24/7 and makes a loud rumble as it travels by on the water. This is not the fault of the campground owners but it is something to know. Another issue I have is that this place is called a “resort”. I have been to many resorts and this is nothing like one. Resorts typically have amenities like a pool, Wi-Fi, laundry room (with more than one washer and dryer), vending machines, camp store, etc. This place has none of those things. The website boasts 1600 feet of lake shoreline but you actually only have access to a few feet of an elevated shoreline and access to the lake is limited to a small hazardous shoreline below. The grounds are lovely and I would have enjoyed it much better if the owner didn’t walk or bicycle around all the time to make sure everyone is obeying all of the rules, which is a bit obsessive to the point of it being a nuisance. He also rode his bicycle right between my site and my neighbors. It was meant to be a relaxing Anniversary getaway, but the owner made me feel that I was constantly being watched and wondering if I was doing something wrong. I even saw him approach a neighbor’s camper, pick up their small door mat and put it on their step. I would not return here and I certainly would not recommend it. It wasn’t all bad, the place is beautiful (it’s Vermont), and the sunset view was nice from the small area along the water.
Oct 08, 2024 · prohomevideosCampground located right on Lake Champlain. Some sites directly on the water. There are designated areas where you can get down to the water if you're not on a waterfront site. Plenty of private places to put your beach chairs and enjoy the scenery. Spectacular sunsets! The grounds are pristine and beautiful. Many flowers and fruit trees. Most sites are in a grassy field with a few trees in between for shade and privacy. The owners were lovely. They accompany every guest to their site and assist with parking and hook- ups. Owners are out working the grounds daily or riding their bikes through the campground socializing with guests. It was very peaceful and plenty of areas to walk dogs through an orchard. Highly recommended!
