Carolina Hemlocks Recreation Area Reviews
This is such a great little campground for summer family camping. It is not too crazy busy and right on the river which is perfect for tubing and swimming (if you can handle the cold water bring a mask and swim through the river looking at all the rocks that line the bottom). There are are lots of rocks on the banks that are perfect for climbing on and adventuring for kids (not for actual rock climbing) campsites have plenty of space, picnic table, fire ring and tent pad with space to park one vehicle. There are bathrooms and showers, but the showers are not heated. Close to a lot of hiking, waterfalls, the blue ridge parkway, and about an hour from mount mitchell.
Jun 18, 2025 · Mollie TobiasWe spent Mothers Day weekend at Hemlocks and it was great. The campground is split on either side of Hwy 80 and we stayed on the river side. They have private, heated restrooms and showers! We tent camped, and the campsite was a really good size and very well laid out. We had so much room, and we were not on top of our neighbors, which was great. They have a great swimming area with a platform and a second access area great for fishing in the South Toe River. The campground is very heavily wooded, and the inside campsite have almost full shade. The hosts were awesome. They even brought the firewood we bought from them directly to our campsite for us! My husband (now 50) spent many summers at this campground as a child and he was very impressed with the improvements made over the years. We will definitely be back!
May 14, 2025 · Yvonne BelcherVery nice park, well maintained. Host/manager is very attentive and friendly and even bring you the fire wood you purchase to your campsite. The river is spectacular and accessible. Bathrooms are clean with showers also available. Campsites are a great size and clean.
Apr 20, 2025 · Javier MedinaThe campground is in good shape. The rocks/water/beach area is still in dissaray. The water appears clean. Fisherman say the fish are biting. Some of the large boulders are washed away giving more beach area.
May 12, 2025 · Dawn BarnardWill most definitely return to this AMAZING spot.We were lucky to snag one of the last 3 remaining spots on July 12th which quickly filled up shortly after.Easy water access. Great tree coverage of camping sites. Firewood for sale. Showers available (for purchase I believe).
