Candy Hill Campground

165 Ward Ave, Winchester, VA 22602, USA

3.0
The campground is very well maintained. However, there are a great many rules that appear to be more for the beautification of the campground or convenience of the staff than the enjoyment of the people actually camping there. We usually put up a small, free standing dog fence. We asked about putting one up, because it does say in the rules no fences, however we have stayed at NUMEROUS campground that have that in the rules but once we explain we have mini dachshunds and a self contained fence that hooks to itself and does not require stakes in the ground everywhere we have ever stayed has allowed that type of fence. Once we were asked to take it down on grass cutting day-understandable. But Nope! Not here!, not allowed! period! I can understand a rule not allowing you to leave your dogs alone outside, we don’t do that. But it makes for a very inconvenient stay when we cannot hang out outside with our dogs unless on a leash. It is a pain to hook them up to a harness and leash every time we go out the door. Honestly, had we realized this we would have booked elsewhere, it made for a rough week staying there. Pool was nice. Again, the campground is well maintained and the staff are attentive, so if you don’t have pets this might be better for you. - Beverly Buscemi

Pool was nice. Again, the campground is well maintained and the staff are attentive." Another long-term visitor praised the exceptional service and commitment to order: "Staff is always super awesome and helpful, they lead you to site and assist you with backing in rain or shine. One of the Employees (Eddie is always great to deal with and talk to and super super helpful and always in a great mood). Easy access from the interstate and I really like how particular they are with campground rules, it sets a tone that’s missing from a lot of campgrounds that just let visitors run rampant and trash the place up, this is definitely NOT one of those, they run a tight ship and I love it." While some guests with specific needs, such as a desire for freestanding pet fences, noted the strict adherence to rules, this rigor ensures a consistently high standard of aesthetics and order that many campers cherish.
