Campground ★5.0

5.0
I went in November. High seventies during the day and high twenties overnight. I was pretty much the only one there. 42 camp sites in total. This one was perfect for my camper van. I backed it in and was able to find a spot where my solar panels would not be covered by the trees. There was a fire pit. Some sites had benches overlooking the ridge. I used my camp stove for food and coffee. The sites come in a variety of sizes, and some are not on the ridge. That is good if you have little ones. - Red FX

Campsite #30 Introduce

Tucked away within the larger Christopher Creek Campground in the cool, high-country forests of Payson, Arizona, Campsite #30 offers a unique and secluded camping experience. While it is part of a managed campground, this particular site is known for its sense of peace and privacy, making it feel miles away from any other campers. It is a fantastic option for those who want the convenience of a campground with amenities like restrooms, but also crave the solitude of a dispersed campsite. Located at a higher elevation, the area provides a welcome escape from the intense heat of the Arizona lowlands, with cool days and crisp, refreshing nights. The surrounding Tonto National Forest is a stunning backdrop of ponderosa pines and other high-country flora, offering a beautiful and natural setting for a relaxing getaway. This site is particularly well-suited for a solo trip or for a small family seeking a quiet, peaceful adventure.

As one reviewer noted, it is perfect for a camper van, offering a spot to park where solar panels can get enough sun, a crucial detail for those embracing a more sustainable travel lifestyle. The variety of sites available in the campground means that while some are right on the ridge with breathtaking views, others are located in more sheltered areas, which is a great option for families with small children. The area's tranquility is a major draw, providing a sanctuary away from the noise and stress of daily life. The feeling of being the "only one there," as one camper described it, is a rare find and a true luxury in today's world.
