Husband and I did a quick little get away for a few nights. Beautiful riverside and plenty of room to fish. They are still in the process of recovering from Helene, but don't let that detour you from checking them out. The two open sites are specious and you have plenty of room for your own privacy if that's what you prefer. Pet friendly and our dogs enjoyed having the space to get around that they wouldn't have at a typical campground. Host was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed hearing his stories about the property and the family growing up there. We will definitely be coming back! - Alison Kriss

Location and Accessibility

Camp Attocoa (Tent Only) is beautifully situated at 3458 Attocoa Dr, Morganton, NC 28655, USA. This location places it in Burke County, North Carolina, within the western part of the state, known for its rolling hills, dense forests, and abundant waterways. The campground’s setting along the majestic Catawba River is a primary draw, offering picturesque views and direct access to the water.

Services Offered

Camp Attocoa prides itself on offering a focused, primitive tent-only camping experience, prioritizing direct engagement with nature while providing essential amenities. Based on available information and customer reviews, the services typically include:

  • Tent Sites: The campground offers dedicated tent sites. Reviews suggest these sites are spacious, offering plenty of room and privacy, which is a significant advantage over more crowded campgrounds.
  • River Access: Easy and direct access to the Catawba River is a key feature, ideal for fishing, kayaking, and general enjoyment of the riverfront.
  • Potable Water: Potable water sources are available at each site, ensuring campers have access to drinking water.
  • Restroom Facilities: A clean porta-potty is provided for restroom needs. It's important to note that, as a primitive site, showers are not available.
  • Firewood Sales: Large bundles of firewood are available for purchase on-site, which is larger than typical retail bundles, and outside firewood is not allowed to prevent the spread of pests.
  • Pet-Friendly Environment: The campground welcomes pets, allowing dogs ample space to roam, which is a significant plus for pet owners.
  • On-Site Host: A very friendly and accommodating host is often on-site, available to assist campers, share stories about the property, and ensure a pleasant stay.

It is important for prospective campers to be aware that due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, some areas of the campground, particularly the river banks and roads, sustained damage. While recovery efforts are ongoing, the management has been transparent about the challenges, including limited river access in some areas and the need for ongoing repairs to roads and sites. They are actively working to restore the property, with community support helping their efforts.
