Butte Meadows Campground is conveniently situated at Humboldt Rd, Forest Ranch, CA 95942, USA. Its proximity to major roadways ensures a relatively straightforward drive, allowing you to spend less time on the road and more time enjoying the natural surroundings.
One of the notable advantages of this campground's location is its close proximity to Lassen Volcanic National Park. For those looking to explore the unique geological features, hiking trails, and stunning vistas of a national park, Butte Meadows Campground serves as an excellent base camp. This makes it particularly appealing for visitors who want to experience both the peace of a campground and the adventure of a national park within the same trip.
While the campground offers a sense of remoteness and escape, it is not entirely isolated. Being next to a fire station can offer an added sense of security for some campers, although it’s worth noting that the general atmosphere remains quiet and peaceful. Accessing the campground is generally manageable, though some campers have noted that the roads and parking areas, particularly for RVs, can be rough and full of large rocks. For this reason, trucks are often advised for those towing larger vehicles or planning to navigate these sections.

Creek Access: A delightful feature of the campground is its proximity to a nice creek, providing a serene backdrop and opportunities for relaxation by the water.
Fire Rings/Grills: It is common for campgrounds to provide designated fire rings or grills at each campsite, allowing for campfires (where permitted by current fire restrictions) and outdoor cooking. While not explicitly detailed in current public data, this is a standard expectation.
Cleanliness: A consistent theme in customer reviews is the cleanliness of Butte Meadows Campground. Visitors frequently praise the well-maintained facilities and general upkeep, contributing to a pleasant camping experience.
Quiet Atmosphere: Many campers appreciate the generally quiet environment of the campground. This makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering a chance to truly unwind and enjoy nature's sounds.

While most dogs are well-behaved, some may approach campsites, so it's advisable to keep a close eye on your food and pets.

Jul 09, 2023 · celena GrayCamped here one night on the way to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The restrooms were locked for the season, but the campground was open. Next to a fire station and a nice creek. Small but perfect for one night.
Aug 09, 2021 · David PartridgeGreat place to camp and spend the day fishing and relaxing by the creek!
May 24, 2025 · Rowan WarrenA site reminiscent of other favorite high Sierra and Cascade Range campgrounds only 45 minutes from my front door. Rare River Otter sighting attests to Wild Fauna vigor. Note: supplies and phone service only really available in Chico.
Sep 04, 2016 · John SchramBiked here from Chico and tent camped from in late Sept. Loved it! Rustic (pit toilets, no showers), friendly campers, beautiful setting. Only 12 campsites though.
