Burnt Ranch Campground

CA-299, Burnt Ranch, CA 95527, USA

4.0
Great campground right off the highway. Road sounds are the only reason not 5/5. Nice, newer fire pits with integrated grills at each site, and almost half the sites have bear boxes installed for food storage.Unmarked trails behind the camp lead to what sounds like the river. I unfortunately couldn't fully explore since I had my dog and the trail was kinda steep. Sites are somewhat private, but the campground is stepped and those in some sites above you can see down into your site. Each site has a concrete table and there are a couple drop toilets on site that are moderately clean. For $6/night, $3 with a pass, not a bad night's sleep. - Josh Snavely

The accessibility directly from a state highway is a significant advantage, meaning less time navigating complex backroads and more time enjoying the destination. However, it's worth noting that its proximity to the highway also means that road sounds can be a factor, as indicated by previous visitors. This is a common trade-off for such direct access. For Californians seeking a relatively easy-to-reach camping spot that provides a quick gateway to the outdoor activities of the Trinity County area, Burnt Ranch Campground's location is a definite plus.
