Buffalo Shores Park, IA Introduce
Hello, fellow Iowans and outdoor enthusiasts! Are you on the hunt for a fantastic camping experience that combines breathtaking natural beauty with modern conveniences, all within easy reach? Iowa is home to some incredible hidden gems for recreation, and today, we're casting our spotlight on a beloved local favorite: Buffalo Shores Park in Buffalo, IA. For those of us living in Iowa who appreciate stunning river views, clean facilities, and a safe, welcoming environment for our camping adventures, this park offers an ideal destination that consistently earns high marks from visitors.
Buffalo Shores Park is more than just a campground; it's a comprehensive recreation area nestled directly on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. Managed by Scott County Conservation, this 25-acre park provides a scenic backdrop for various outdoor activities, making it a popular choice for both day-trippers and overnight campers. The park's name itself evokes its prime location, offering unparalleled "Beautiful view" of the expansive river and its captivating barge traffic. This iconic setting is a significant draw, allowing campers to immerse themselves in one of America's grandest waterways.
The reviews for Buffalo Shores Park consistently highlight its cleanliness and user-friendly design. Visitors frequently commend the "clean and easy to find a good spot" nature of the campground, indicating that the park prioritizes guest comfort and ease of use. The presence of Park Rangers driving through every "60 to 90 minutes" contributes significantly to a sense of safety and security, a crucial factor for families and all campers. This proactive approach to park management ensures a well-ordered and peaceful environment, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy their surroundings without worry.
While one review humorously compared it to a "paved drive-in movie theater" in winter and noted its location "between the railroad tracks and the river," these descriptions also underscore unique aspects that some campers might find charming. The presence of railroad tracks, while potentially leading to occasional train noise, is a common feature of riverfront properties and often adds to the rustic, authentic feel of riverside camping. The "great view of the Mississippi river" remains a constant, regardless of the season or the park's specific layout. For Iowa locals, Buffalo Shores Park offers a reliable, well-maintained, and visually stunning option for their next outdoor escape, providing a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities that make for a truly enjoyable experience.
Buffalo Shores Park is ideally situated at 1433 W Front St #7765, Buffalo, IA 52728, USA. This prime address places it directly on the western bank of the Mississippi River, just downstream from the town of Buffalo, Iowa. This location is incredibly convenient for residents across Eastern Iowa, particularly those in the Quad Cities metropolitan area (Davenport, Bettendorf) and nearby communities like Muscatine.
The park's accessibility is excellent, located off State Highway 22, which ensures straightforward navigation for visitors. Whether you're driving a passenger vehicle or towing a large RV, the approach to Buffalo Shores Park is generally easy to manage. While one review notes its position between "the railroad tracks and the river," the distance of "about 300 yards" provides a buffer, and many campers find the occasional train a charming part of the riverside experience rather than a disturbance.
The close proximity to the small, character-filled town of Buffalo means that campers have easy access to local amenities such as gas stations, convenience stores, and local eateries like Clark's Landing or Judy's Barge Inn, should they need supplies or a break from camp cooking. Furthermore, being part of the larger Quad Cities region, Buffalo Shores Park is a convenient base for exploring other attractions and cultural sites in Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline. Beautiful view, great park, campground clean and easy to find a good spot. Park Rangers drive through every 60 to 90 minutes so we felt safe..
Apr 27, 2025 · Melanie ScottTrailer Park camping with a nice view. Here’s what it looks like in the winter time. Kinda looks like a paved drive-in movie theater with a great view of the Mississippi river.. before warned the Campground is set between the railroad tracks and the river and the distance between the two of them is about 300 yards….. no winter camping here but the first 11 sites down at Shady Creek 7 miles south is open for winter camping that is of the time of this writing on December 29, 2024 .. Dec 29, 2024 · nathan goodfellowHaved stayed here 3 times now. Campground is nice with flat paved roads. Not a lot of leveling involved to set up. Bathrooms are cleaned daily. Campsite is also cleaned daily (picking up sticks, debris etc). Im sitting on the beach right now after labor day weekend and there is no trash on the beach. I'm not sure what those other reviews are crying about. The wood is $3 a bundle...thats cheap. If you dont like the price, go cut down a tree, then split it. $3 is a bargain. There is a shower house/bathroom that is nice. Also 4 porto johnnies in thw campground too.Trains can be a little annoying but they arent that frequent. Maybe 2 a day?? Rangers do a pretty good job of enforcing the rules. Camp host is a nice guy. If you want a beach spot get here by Wednesday. The camp spot sizes vary quite a bit. Some are very large while some are small. If you look at a satellite view you can see. Only reason i didnt give it a 5 is because they dont have water at every site. You have to fill up your tank then unhook from the water. Not a huge deal but to elderly people or people who have mobility problems this may be a deal breaker. Overall a nice place to camp.
Sep 06, 2017 · Adam Smith10/10/2020: If you want a river front camping spot get there on Wednesday or Thursday. We were in spot 15 and it was perfect! The campground has electricity and water but no sewage or dump station or shower houses due to faulty sewer system. They have put up Porta potty‘s and they are actually clean and not completely disgusting to use. Each campsite has a fire ring as well. Campers are permitted to use the dump stations at Westlake camp ground 10 miles away, or so. They are both run by Scott County. If you forget anything, nearby Blue Grass is a five minute drive and has a wonderful grocery store called Jeff’s Market where they cut their own meat and have a hot food deli case where the chicken smells wonderful. Dollar General is also nearby. We brought our kayaks and got out on the river a couple of times over the weekend. We had some lovely camper neighbors and we are anxious to get back there soon! Don’t miss this little gem!!
Oct 11, 2020 · Marcy StroudFantastic spot right on the Mississippi river. There is electricity and water to fill your fresh water tank. As of right now there is no dump station. But the sand beach is awesome!!!
