Bountiful Peak Campground Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Welcome to Bountiful Peak Campground, a hidden gem nestled high in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah. Situated at a notable elevation, this campground offers a true mountain escape, providing a refreshing break from the summer heat of the valleys below. It's a place where the air is crisp, the views are expansive, and the tranquility of nature is within reach. Designed for those who appreciate a more rustic and rugged camping experience, Bountiful Peak is an ideal spot for adventurers, families, and anyone looking to reconnect with the outdoors. The campground's natural setting is its primary appeal, with a mix of conifer and aspen trees providing partial shade and a stunning display of color in the autumn.
Bountiful Peak Campground is not a resort, but rather a classic campground that provides the essentials for a comfortable stay while keeping the focus on the surrounding environment. It's a place where visitors can enjoy the simple pleasures of camping: gathering around a campfire, exploring nearby trails, and taking in the breathtaking scenery. As some visitors have noted, while it's a beautiful spot, it's important to come prepared. The journey to the campground is part of the adventure, and the amenities, while essential, are basic. This straightforward approach to camping is what makes it so appealing to local users who are looking for an authentic mountain experience without the frills.
The atmosphere at Bountiful Peak is both serene and vibrant. While you can find peaceful moments to yourself, the campground is also a hub for outdoor activity. The presence of other campers, as well as those enjoying the area for off-road vehicles, creates a lively outdoor community. It's a place where you can find camaraderie with fellow nature lovers. Its proximity to the Salt Lake Valley makes it a convenient getaway for a quick weekend trip or a longer, more immersive stay. Whether you are seeking a base for high-elevation hiking or a quiet spot to relax, Bountiful Peak Campground offers a unique and rewarding experience for all who visit.
Location and Accessibility
Bountiful Peak Campground is located at Bountiful Peak Campground Rd, Mountain Green, UT 84050, USA, high in the Wasatch Mountains. Its elevated position provides a spectacular vantage point, with numerous trails offering beautiful views of the Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Back. The journey to the campground is a key part of the experience. The road leading up to the site is described as being "rutted and rocky," with a final half-mile section requiring slow and careful driving. As a recent visitor noted, a vehicle like a Subaru Outback can manage the road without issue, provided you take your time. It’s advisable for visitors to be prepared for a less-than-smooth drive, and a vehicle with decent clearance is a good idea. This rugged access adds to the feeling of a genuine mountain escape, setting it apart from more easily reached campgrounds.
The campground’s remote, high-elevation setting also means that its season can be dependent on weather conditions, particularly snow melt. A review from July 2024 noted that the water was not yet turned on and the outhouses were still full from snowmelt, highlighting the importance of checking current conditions before heading up. This is a common aspect of high-elevation camping in Utah and should be taken into consideration when planning your trip. Despite the challenging road and seasonal nature, the location's payoff is immense. The cool mountain air provides a welcome relief during hot summers, and the alpine basin setting is simply breathtaking.
While the campground is technically in Mountain Green, its access is typically from Farmington Canyon, a scenic drive that leads you up into the mountains. This approach makes it a convenient, albeit rugged, getaway for residents of the Wasatch Front. The journey itself is a preview of the natural beauty you will find at the campground. Being aware of the road conditions and the seasonal limitations is key to a successful and enjoyable trip to this stunning location.

While they may be basic, they are an essential part of the campground's infrastructure, providing necessary sanitary facilities for all visitors. It is worth noting that, as per a recent review, these may not be fully operational early in the season due to snowmelt, so it is always wise to check current conditions before you go.

What is worth choosing
Choosing Bountiful Peak Campground is about opting for a raw, beautiful, and authentic mountain experience. While some may be put off by the rugged road or the occasional noise from other recreational users like motorcycles, these are simply part of the package. The aural backdrop of a vibrant outdoor community—the buzz of a distant motorcycle or the murmur of nearby music—is often the sound of people enjoying the same wild spaces you are. The slight inconvenience of a rocky road or the seasonal limitations of amenities like water and toilets is a small price to pay for the incredible payoff of the location itself. The feeling of being high in the Wasatch Mountains, far from the city, is what makes this campground truly special.
The value here lies in the stunning natural features that are so hard to find in more accessible or developed areas. The campground provides access to a network of trails and scenic drives, putting you right in the middle of a recreational paradise. It is a perfect spot for those who are prepared to handle a more rustic experience and who understand that part of the adventure is adapting to the environment. The "good for kids" feature means that even with the ruggedness, it's a place where families can thrive and enjoy a true outdoor education. The sense of accomplishment that comes from navigating the road and settling into your mountain campsite is part of the reward. For those seeking an escape from the ordinary and a chance to immerse themselves in the high-elevation beauty of Utah, Bountiful Peak Campground is an excellent choice. Its unpolished nature is precisely what makes it so charming and so memorable.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The last 1/2 mile from the three way to campground entrance is rutted and rocky. Our 2011 Subaru Outback made it no problem if we took it slow. Water is not turned on as of 7/8/2024 and the outhouses have not been pumped out so they are still full with snow melt water. No eta in water being turned on or outhouses being pumped. Same holds true for the reservable group site.
July 08 · Friends of Kings Peak ShaulLots of noise from motorcycles, people’s music, etc. It is nice up there though.
August 11 · Dan LeFevreShort but scary drive up canyon to campground which is well equipped with fire pit and picnic tables and “long drop” toilets. Also fault close to FARMINGTON lakes...another short hike to mountain lake
July 23 · Treion Muller$22 a night for one vehicle.About 40 minute up Farmington CanyonVery rough terrain.Checked out the sites.Bring a shovel or a machete.Better off in a hammock or small 4 man tent.Even a 2 man tent.And yes I said man tent.
