We stayed here in June of 2025. We planned to stay for 4 nights, but left after 3.First I will say the staff is very nice. That was probably the only positive of this experience though. The sites are loose sand and not even close to level. We were driving a 30' motorhome with a 12' attached trailer making us pretty long. We had a pull through site. When we first did the auto-level the jacks lifted our front tire completely off the ground to try and get level (not good for the jacks). So we had to back up a few times to find a better spot to keep all the tires down. When we then started to set up our campsite we discovered red fire ant hills all around our RV. Due to this we opted not to set up any outside furniture or spend any time outside. Our first full day there we attended an event in San Diego. We got back to the campsite about 6:30pm and planned to get into the pool only to discover that it closes at 7pm. That seems really early for a pool in the middle of summer.Fast forward to Saturday morning, and the day we decided to leave. We received a text message that there was a private event happening in the park that day and the following day. Due to this event parts of the park, including several sites, a road leading through the park, and the rec center would be closed to anyone not attending the party. They also adjusted the pool hours to accommodate "private hours" for the party attenders. I'm sure the party was great for those attending, but for the rest of us that paid to enjoy all the amenities of the park, it was pretty crappy. Especially since we got no notice other than a text the day of.At this point we decided just to leave early. Our site had a large tree to the right of us, so our plan was to make a left out of the site and drive around the rec center to the exit. Unfortunately that was the road that was closed. In order to leave, we had to swing to the left and then make a hard right to avoid the tree, which meant driving half way through the campsite across the street from us. We questioned the staff about this beforehand and he "warned" the people camping across from us that we were going to drive through their campsite temporarily. That was nice, but still should not have been necessary. All in all, the campsite itself wasn't nearly as nice as several other KOAs we have stayed at (and we have stayed at a lot). I also have a huge issue with booking a private party and limiting the amenities of other paid guests without any warning.(Pictures below of the large tree to the right we had to avoid to pull out as well as the road closed to our left) - Kristin Engle

While individual experiences can vary, the park is known for its friendly staff and a range of facilities designed to enhance your outdoor adventure.

The essence of a KOA Holiday campground is to offer more than just a place to park; it's about providing a recreational hub with various amenities. At this particular location, visitors can often find themselves amidst a pleasant, uncrowded atmosphere, especially during midweek stays, contributing to a more relaxed experience. The staff frequently receives praise for their accommodating nature and willingness to assist guests, a crucial aspect of a positive camping trip. For those traveling with pets, the availability of nice trails for dog walking is a significant plus, ensuring that every member of the family can enjoy the outdoors.

However, like any popular destination, experiences can differ. While some visitors enjoy the tranquil setting and the ease of service, others have noted considerations regarding site leveling and potential access issues during special events. It’s important for prospective guests, especially those with larger RVs, to be prepared for varied site conditions, as some sites may require extra effort to achieve a level setup. Awareness of potential private events that might impact general guest access to certain park amenities is also advisable, though such occurrences seem to be communicated directly to guests. Despite these points, the core appeal of a KOA, with its promise of amenities and consistent service, remains a draw for many campers.

Ultimately, Boulevard / Cleveland National Forest KOA Holiday positions itself as a welcoming stop for travelers traversing Highway 8 through the mountains of Southern California. Its inviting atmosphere, coupled with attentive service, makes it a destination worth considering for your next RV or camping adventure in the region.
