Restrooms: Restroom facilities are available on-site. These typically include vault or flush toilets. It's important to note that the cleanliness and functionality of these facilities can sometimes vary, as suggested by past feedback, which has indicated issues like leaking toilets and lack of soap. The camp host emphasizes that restrooms are attended to multiple times daily when they are working, but they cannot control all user actions or unexpected malfunctions.

Campers should be prepared for the possibility that showers might be out of order and plan accordingly, perhaps bringing portable shower solutions or embracing a more rustic approach.

Trash Disposal: Designated trash receptacles are provided for waste disposal, encouraging campers to maintain a clean environment and adhere to "Leave No Trace" principles.
Reservations: Boulder Gulch Campground utilizes an online reservation system, allowing campers to book their sites in advance. The campground's lakeside location provides convenient entry points to the water.
Scenic Views: Campers can enjoy picturesque views of Lake Isabella and the surrounding foothills of the Sequoia National Forest. Sunrises and sunsets over the water can be particularly beautiful, offering excellent photographic opportunities.
Family-Friendly Environment (with caveats): The presence of lakeside activities makes it appealing for families. However, visitors should be aware of conditions like potential glass shards near the lake's edge, as noted in a review. It is crucial to wear appropriate footwear, especially when near or in the water, to ensure safety.
Proximity to Kern River Valley Attractions: Beyond the lake, the campground is a short drive from other attractions in the Kern River Valley, including sections of the Kern River (popular for whitewater rafting and fly fishing), charming local towns, and additional hiking trails within the Sequoia National Forest.
Camp Host On-Site: A camp host is present at Boulder Gulch Campground. While customer interactions can vary, the host's role is to oversee the campground, manage check-ins, and address issues. As mentioned in the reviews, the host strives to maintain the facilities and is present for a significant portion of the day, indicating a level of management and oversight.
Variable Facility Conditions: It's important for visitors to note that while facilities like restrooms and showers are provided, their condition can sometimes be inconsistent due to heavy usage or maintenance schedules, as highlighted by customer feedback. Boulder Gulch Campground Reviews
Don’t Waste Your Money Here! The camp host was incredibly rude and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. Instead of a simple “hello,” we were immediately barked at with “CASH OR CHECK?!” even though we had already made reservations online. When I mentioned our reservation, she sarcastically mocked me saying, “You should have said that”—even though we had just arrived and hadn’t been given a chance to explain. The bathrooms were in terrible condition: no soap, leaking toilets, and showers that didn’t work at all. The lake itself could’ve been nice, but it was littered with glass shards—seriously dangerous. You absolutely need to wear shoes in the water. For how much they charge ($80 for two nights), this place is absolutely not worth it. I’ve stayed at many free campsites that were 100 times better maintained and more welcoming. Save your time and money—camp elsewhere!
Jun 23, 2025 · Angelina MedinaFor the comment last week on the camphost. First off I never say cash or check only unless someone asks or starts to hand me a debit card. I'm far from rude. Nor do I mock. I'm sorry about your bad experience. But I have no control what happens down at the lake or who takes a birdbath in the restrooms to make the floors all wet. Sorry about the showers as well, which I have no control of either. Hope you enjoy the rest of your summer. 😁Yes I have excuses....I was nowhere around your first 2 days here..prolly cause I was on my 2 days off. Yes I do pick n choose when I work. I only have so many hours and I have to stretch them out from 7am to past 10pm. There has never been a single day, when I'm working that the restrooms are not attended to at least twice a day. I can not control who throws toilet paper on the floor. Nor do I go in behind every person to clean. Again, sorry you had a bad day. Hope the rest of your summer goes well. Thank you. 😊
Jul 05, 2025 · Karine RolfeSo i have mixed feelings about this campsite. I am a local and have been wanting to camp here awhile because of all the rocks and boulders and proximity to the lake. Overall it was a great experience but i cant rate it any higher than a 3 due to the rude camp host. She wasn’t even onsite the first 2 days of our trip and seemed to kind of pick and choose when to due her job. i was there for five days and the restrooms were not cleaned once while i was there, and she seemed to have an attitude towards the campers when she was asked any questions.
Jun 16, 2025 · Katelyn EscalanteIt would of been a more enjoyable camp for me if there were more shade to cover us from the sun. Also there has been many complaints about the showers not working for years. It's still the same showers don't work so bring a bucket and find a spot to rinse your self. Never camping again in the summer again it was extremely hot and there are not alot of trees for shade here at boulder gulch. One more thing the water at the lake was smelly alot of broken glass wear proper foot protection.
