Black Mountain Group Campground focuses on providing the essential services needed for a comfortable and enjoyable group camping experience in a natural setting. While it embraces a more primitive style of camping, it ensures that fundamental needs are met.
- Group Camping Sites: The primary service offered is large, spacious campsites specifically designed to accommodate multiple tents and numerous individuals, making it perfect for gatherings of friends and family.
- Vault Toilets: The campground provides vault toilets for convenience. As noted by a reviewer, "Vault toilets could get really bad," indicating that while available, they are a basic amenity and users should manage expectations accordingly.
- Picnic Tables: Each group site is equipped with sturdy picnic tables, providing a designated area for meals, games, and social interaction.
- Fire Rings: Campers will find designated fire rings at each site, allowing for safe and enjoyable campfires (when conditions permit and fire restrictions are not in place).
- No Running Water: It is crucial to note that the campground does not offer running water. Visitors must bring all necessary water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene. This aligns with the more primitive camping experience the campground provides.
- Locked Gate Access: The campground features a locked gate, ensuring privacy and preventing unauthorized access, especially during peak seasons. This is a significant benefit for groups looking for an exclusive camping experience.
- Trash Receptacles: While not explicitly mentioned, campgrounds typically provide designated areas for trash disposal, encouraging a pack-it-in, pack-it-out mentality or proper waste management to preserve the natural environment.
Black Mountain Group Campground boasts several standout features that contribute to its appeal and make it a highly recommended spot for group outings in California.
- Stunning Natural Beauty: The most frequently highlighted feature is the "beautiful location" and "great views." The campground offers picturesque scenery, with its elevated position providing expansive vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
- Secluded and Quiet Atmosphere: Being a group-specific campground with a locked gate, it offers a more private and tranquil environment compared to individual campsites, which can often be crowded, especially on busy weekends. This seclusion is highly valued by guests seeking peace.
- Spacious Campsites: Reviewers consistently mention the generous size of the spots, stating they are "huge and you can easily fit several tents if you wish." This ample space is perfect for accommodating large groups comfortably.
- Exploration Opportunities: The surrounding area offers "lots of little places to explore," providing opportunities for hiking, nature walks, and discovering the local flora and fauna.
- Ideal for Large Gatherings: Its design and capacity make it uniquely suited for large groups of friends, families, or organizations to camp together, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and shared experience.
- True Wilderness Experience: For those who appreciate a more rustic and less developed camping trip, the absence of running water and reliance on vault toilets contribute to an authentic wilderness feel.

It's a beautiful location, lots of little places to explore. Great to have some good friends all camp together, especially on busy weekends, it's a locked gate to keep out anyone not part of the group. Cons: Vault toilets could get really bad and no running water.
May 28, 2018 · Joey JamirIt is so beautiful here! The spots are huge and you can easily fit several tents if you wish. The views are great! The drive up there from the highway is a fun and windy one. I made it up there with my car, but you should be a little bit careful of where you put your tires if you are taking a car up there as there are some spots where you may bottom out a little bit if you are not careful! This campground will stay on my list of places to revisit when I am back in the area
Dec 08, 2018 · Kristin NewellVery nice and secluded place. The road is super rocky for more than 30 mins and need to make sure your car is appropriate for the road. I enjoy lake Hemet and the Humber park hiking trails much more and they are much closer to everything.
