From larger population centers like Eugene or Springfield, the drive to Fall Creek is relatively straightforward, and from there, NF-18 leads directly to the campground. While it feels wonderfully remote once you arrive, it's not so far out that it becomes an arduous journey, making it a viable option for a weekend escape or a mid-week rejuvenation. However, it's essential to recognize that this is a rustic forest campground. Public transportation is not available, and a personal vehicle is necessary for access. As a small, rustic forest campground, Big Pool Campground offers a minimalist set of services, emphasizing a traditional and self-reliant camping experience. The beauty here lies in its simplicity and the focus on natural immersion rather than extensive amenities.
Limited Campsites: The campground features a very small number of sites, typically noted as "only 4 sites" or sometimes three, ensuring a private and uncrowded experience.
No Undergrowth for Visual Separation: Due to the lack of dense undergrowth between sites, visual privacy between the few sites is somewhat limited, though the overall private atmosphere of the campground remains a highlight.
Proximity to Road: The sites are relatively close to the road, "only about 40 feet from the road." While this offers easy access, it's a factor to consider for those seeking absolute isolation from any passing vehicles.
Basic Facilities: Expect very basic facilities, common in rustic forest campgrounds. This typically includes a primitive toilet facility (like a vault toilet) and potentially picnic tables and fire rings at each site.
No Host On-Site: It is typical for campgrounds of this size and nature to operate without a dedicated, on-site camp host. Campers should be prepared for a self-guided experience and to adhere to all posted regulations.
Pack In, Pack Out Policy: Given its rustic nature, campers should assume a "pack in, pack out" policy for all garbage and waste, reinforcing environmental stewardship.
No Potable Water: It is highly likely that potable water is not available at the campground. Campers should bring all necessary drinking and cooking water with them.
No Electricity Hookups: This is a true dry camping experience; there are no electrical hookups for RVs or other camping setups.
Despite its limited services, Big Pool Campground offers several compelling features and highlights that make it a truly special and appealing destination for a particular kind of outdoor enthusiast.
Pristine and Unburned Condition: A major highlight is that it "did not get all burned up in recent fires," meaning it retains its "pristine" natural beauty and lush canopy, offering a more vibrant and intact forest experience.

Soothing Sound of the Creek: The constant "sound of the creek" (Fall Creek) provides a natural, calming backdrop, enhancing the peaceful nature retreat experience.
Direct Creek Access (with consideration): While "access to the creek is a little rugged" and requires "scrambling over narrow rocky ledges," it offers direct access to the beautiful Fall Creek for adults and older children, allowing for exploration, rockhounding, or simply enjoying the water's edge.
Abundance of Trees: The campground is surrounded by "lots of trees," contributing to a shaded, cool, and immersive forest environment, perfect for escaping the summer heat.

Big Pool Campground Reviews
One of the campgrounds that did not get all burned up in recent fires Big Poole is pristine, private as there is only 4 sites. Access to the creek is a little rugged but not terrible. It's a beautiful relaxing little spot. I would recommend it to anyone needing a nature retreat, it has a good energy.
Jul 29, 2021 · Tim ErleiBig Pools is a pretty spot but has 3 major drawbacks.Firstly, there are only three sites and there's no undergrowth to visually separate the sites.Secondly, the sites are only about 40 feet from the road.Lastly, the trails to the creek, Fall Creek, aren't easy for small children & definitely require scrambling over narrow rocky ledges to get down to the creek. Easy enough for older children & adults but not for younger children.Even so there's the sound of the creek, lots of trees and the beautiful setting of Fall Creek.
Aug 17, 2019 · Scott MantonGood creek access but the camp sites are small.
May 24, 2022 · Colin KingenSmall and super cute! Gotta be quick to get a spot.
