Operating on a 100% first-come, first-served basis, Big Bend encourages early arrival, but rewards persistence with a prime spot in a picturesque setting. Location and Accessibility
Big Bend Campground is conveniently situated in Bellvue, CO 80512, USA. This location places it within the stunning natural landscapes of Northern Colorado, particularly appealing to residents of Fort Collins and the surrounding areas. While it offers a feeling of being comfortably secluded in the wilderness, it remains relatively accessible, approximately an hour's drive from larger amenities like a Walmart. This balance allows campers to enjoy the serenity of nature without feeling completely cut off from necessary supplies if forgotten.
The campground’s setting often provides "awesome views" of the rugged Colorado terrain, characteristic of the Poudre Canyon area. Its position offers easy access to a multitude of hiking trails, making it an ideal basecamp for outdoor adventurers eager to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot. Despite its natural, untamed surroundings, Big Bend is generally reached via well-maintained roads, making the drive manageable for various vehicle types. However, as with any Colorado mountain destination, it's always wise to check local road conditions, especially during shoulder seasons, to ensure a smooth journey.
One notable aspect of its location is the limited to no cell service. For many, this is a significant feature, allowing for a true digital detox and an enhanced connection with the natural environment and fellow campers. This intentional disconnect from modern communications fosters a more traditional and immersive camping experience, encouraging reliance on maps and direct interaction, rather than screens. This combination of convenient access to trails and relative proximity to civilization, paired with an enforced digital quietude, makes Big Bend Campground a truly unique and desirable location for Colorado locals seeking an authentic outdoor escape that promotes genuine relaxation and adventure.
Its "first-come, first-served" policy means that early arrival is key, especially during peak seasons, but this system also ensures that those who commit to the early start are rewarded with a beautiful spot in a highly sought-after location. Big Bend Campground Reviews
Great camping site is 100% FF so get there early!. Restrooms are clean. Lee is the man in charge there and he is a great guy, very friendly, chattie and helpful. He even lend a tent to a camper that got there early and forgot hers!. When we asked for food places around, he gave us good advise and even offered his own food if we didn't find anything open. 100% will be back!!. If you stop by bring Lee a piece of pie or a nice muffin, he deserves it!! 😃
Aug 28, 2022 · Alejandro RamirezBig Bend Campground was absolutely amazing! Spacious campsites, bear lockers, vault bathroom (very clean), and awesome views. Walmart is about an hour away, little stores around and so many hiking trails. Our camp host was awesome! No cell service but hey that made the experience even better. Dog friendly.
Sep 20, 2021 · Sydney PalmerBig Bend is a fabulous stay on the river. Clean bathrooms, nice camp hosts, great little walking paths in the woods along the river, and a Magpie that loves dark cherries. So nice to hear the river right there and if only my photos gave you the smell of pine forest, you'd have a better idea of just how nice it is.
Sep 04, 2018 · Louise BrowneBig bend was a delightful find! We were passing it on the way to another campsite up the canyon and decided to stay. We had another family with us as well so we had 2 spots. Jackie the camp host was AMAZING! She was the most kind, hard working, and easy-going host I've ever come across. She was sweet to my 2 littles and took keeping the restroom there in PERFECT condition, like better than most business I've visited, mopping the floor and cleaning/restocking it daily (amazing for a potty training toddler that spends a lot of time in there). The site itself was beautiful, close to the river, great bike riding loop for young kiddos and relaxing for sure. Unfortunately I don't think the host with the most is there any longer so I can't promise the cleanliness of the sites/bathrooms, but you will enjoy the scenery and river!
Sep 18, 2024 · April Marie CaseyWhat a neat camp. Very spacious but not very many sites. All sites are right next to the river. Very neat and clean. The camp host is very good at his job. And knows the area pretty well. They do sell firewood here. Big rigs will fit in most sites but remember there are no hook ups here. Dry camping only.
