Bahia Honda State Park RV Campground Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For Floridians seeking an unparalleled escape into the natural beauty of the Lower Keys, Bahia Honda State Park RV Campground stands out as an absolutely beautiful destination. Renowned for its stunning, crystal-clear beaches and abundant opportunities for exploration, this state park offers a truly immersive outdoor experience. Visitors consistently rave about the park's picturesque setting, where the turquoise waters meet pristine sandy shores, creating a postcard-perfect backdrop for any camping adventure. Whether you're an avid RVer, a dedicated tent camper, or simply someone yearning to reconnect with nature, Bahia Honda provides an idyllic setting that is both serene and engaging.
The campground’s appeal is further enhanced by its diverse marine life, easily observable from the shore or even right under the historic bridge. Guests have reported sightings of snook, sharks, countless crabs, small fish, and even lobsters, making every moment an opportunity for discovery. This rich biodiversity contributes significantly to the park's charm, allowing campers to truly feel connected to the unique ecosystem of the Florida Keys. Despite the park's popularity during the day, a remarkable transformation occurs around 4 o'clock, when the beach-goers disperse, and a peaceful tranquility descends, just in time for the breathtaking Keys sunset. This shift offers campers a more exclusive and quiet experience during the evenings, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.
The park staff, especially the rangers, consistently receive high praise for their friendliness and helpfulness, contributing significantly to a positive visitor experience. Their dedication ensures the park remains "ship shape," reflecting a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for everyone. While some minor improvements could be made to shower facilities, these are generally viewed as minor inconveniences in the face of such overwhelming natural splendor and excellent service. Bahia Honda State Park RV Campground is more than just a place to stay; it's a cherished destination that promises unforgettable moments amidst one of Florida's most iconic natural treasures.
Location and Accessibility
Bahia Honda State Park RV Campground is conveniently located at 36850 Overseas Hwy, Big Pine Key, FL 33043, USA. This strategic address places it directly on US-1, the famed Overseas Highway, making it easily accessible for travelers from across Florida and beyond. Situated in the heart of the Lower Florida Keys, the park serves as a perfect base for exploring the unique ecosystems and attractions of this captivating archipelago.
Accessibility to the park is generally excellent for both RVs and standard vehicles. While US-1 is very close by, providing easy access, it's worth noting that traffic levels can occasionally introduce some ambient noise. For tent campers specifically heading to the Bayside Campground, there's a very strict 6'8" clearance requirement when going under the bridge to enter. This detail is crucial for those with taller vehicles, as even a stock 2500 truck might barely clear it, requiring careful navigation. However, once inside, the ease of access to the park's numerous features, including its renowned beaches and snorkeling spots, makes any initial navigation challenge worthwhile.
The park’s location on Big Pine Key also provides a sense of being truly immersed in the Keys' natural environment, while still being within a reasonable driving distance to local amenities and other Keys attractions. This balance of natural seclusion and practical accessibility makes Bahia Honda State Park a highly desirable destination for Floridians seeking an authentic Keys camping adventure without enduring excessively long drives.

Bahia Honda State Park RV Campground Reviews
This park was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The beaches had crystal-clear water and plenty to explore. We stayed in the Buttonwood campground, site 1, with our RV. The campsites were well-kept, and while it wasn’t a site by the water, it was still wonderful! Under the nearby bridge, we saw so much marine life from snook and a shark to tons of crabs, small fish, and even lobsters. The bathrooms were okay and cleaned regularly, but the showers could use some improvements. The small stall didn’t have a bench to put your items on (unlike the handicap stall), although both did have hooks for hanging things. We've seen better shower setups at other state parks, but it wasn't a deal-breaker, as it was still able to be used and functioned well. The park rangers were all incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Jun 01, 2025 · Alyssa McIntyreExcellent campground with beautiful sites. We are tent campers and stayed in the Bayside Campground, which was awesome! The park itself can be crowded during the day but by 4 o'clock the beach-goers seem to clear out and things quiet down just in time for the sunset. Wonderful snorkeling right off the beach with plenty of small creatures in shallow & clear water. The Bayside campground is tents only because of the clearance at the entrance and the sites are the perfect size for a tent and vehicle. Very strict 6'8" going under the bridge to enter which we barely cleared in our stock 2500. Be careful! Staff are lovely and keep the place ship shape. US 1 is very close by for easy access, but can also be noisy depending on traffic levels. We will be back at every opportunity!

The park practices some light pollution control, making it an ideal place to experience the night sky in all its glory. During September, the Milky Way is visible, and it's truly a breathtaking sight. The peaceful atmosphere, paired with stunning views of both the ocean and the stars, creates an unforgettable experience. The RV sites are well-maintained, and the park's natural beauty makes it a must-visit destination for campers looking for a serene getaway. Highly recommended!
