The significance of its location cannot be overstated. Au Train is a small community situated near the shores of Lake Superior, providing campers with the potential for direct access to the lake's vast beauty and recreational opportunities. Based on the provided information and general understanding of campgrounds of this type, Au Train Beach Campground appears to offer a focus on providing basic camping services rather than a wide array of luxury amenities. It is important for prospective campers to manage their expectations regarding the facilities available on-site.
Campsites: The primary service provided is the availability of individual campsites suitable for tents and/or recreational vehicles. These sites offer a designated space for setting up camp.
Basic Utilities (Likely): While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, most campgrounds, especially those accessible by vehicle, typically offer some form of basic utility access. This often includes water hookups at some sites and potentially electrical hookups. Campers should inquire directly with the campground regarding specific utility availability and amp service for RVs.
Restroom Facilities (Assumed): Public campgrounds usually provide access to shared restroom facilities, which may range from vault toilets to flush toilets and showers. The condition and availability of these should be verified directly with the campground prior to booking if they are a critical amenity for your stay.
Access to Natural Surroundings: A key "service" of any campground like this is the inherent access it provides to the natural environment. Given its name, proximity to Au Train Beach suggests direct or very close access to Lake Superior, which is a major draw for many campers.
It is worth noting that the customer reviews provided primarily discuss issues related to customer service and refund policies rather than on-site services or amenities. This lack of discussion about facilities in positive or negative terms within the reviews could indicate that the services are standard for a basic campground, or simply that the booking issues overshadowed other aspects of the experience for those reviewers. As always, for the most accurate and current information on services offered, direct contact with Au Train Beach Campground is recommended.

Access to Lake Superior: Beyond just the beach, being near Lake Superior offers access to a myriad of water-based activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and boating. The sheer scale and beauty of the Great Lake are a significant draw for many visitors to the U.P.
Gateway to Upper Peninsula Exploration: Located on M-28, the campground serves as a convenient basecamp for exploring other iconic Upper Peninsula attractions. This includes the breathtaking Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, numerous waterfalls, hiking trails, and charming U.P. towns like Munising and Marquette, all within a reasonable driving distance.
Natural Surroundings: The campground is set amidst the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula, offering a chance to immerse oneself in Michigan's forests and the pristine environment. This allows for wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and a general sense of being away from urban hustle.

Au Train Beach Campground Reviews
Bad service I called the night I got into a car accident and they said that they would get back to me about canceling but never did. My friend had to call them multiple different times about getting a refund and some phones calls they didn’t even pick up making us extremely disappointed. It’s extremely irritating that we were in a car accident that we had no control over and this campground would not give us any money back. After our experience, we don’t plan on booking with this campsite again because we basically wasted our money. This campground is money hungry and I would avoid at all costs. Another campground I canceled with was at least able to give me money back. I highly recommend going to another campground.
Jun 17, 2025 · Juliana CrewsAwful management. I was involved in a severe motor vehicle accident while driving up to the campsite, my car is totaled, and I now have a $15,000 expense that I have to pay. They would not give me even a partial refund.
Jun 17, 2025 · Ishani GaidhaneFriendliest campground we ever visited! They ultimately want to make sure you are comfortable with the place you booked and will give you the option to switch if you don’t like the particular space you booked so just know you have the option. Very accommodating and kind! We stuck with our TP tent which was roomy and nice! You can walk right across the beach to swim or have fires right on the sand at night! It’s beautiful and relaxing. Showers and bathrooms are nice and clean. Everything is is close in proximity to drive to. We drove 8 hours and called it paradise! Hopefully we can make it back some day!
Aug 05, 2024 · Ashley LantzWe stayed in a yurt with electricity, it was perfect. The kids loved playing pickleball and on the playground; the wi-fi was an unexpected bonus. The employees were friendly and kind; super helpful with all of our questions and knowledgeable of the area and points of interest. The location is super conveniently located to all the things we wanted to see (waterfalls, kayaking, great food at The Duck Pond, shopping, etc) yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet of the woods. Our site was clean, well maintained, and safe. We will be back, thank you!
Jul 24, 2024 · Mariah ErvinCampsites are small- we fit a 6-8 person tent and a canopy on it. Many of them are on a slanted slope. Not all are maintained. Bring a rake. Check out is at 11 but they allowed someone to start moving into our site the day we were packing up at 9:40 AM. Luckily we were just finishing up, still very rude of the campground staff considering check in is at 3PM. So I’m assuming you can check in whenever you want. Also QUITE time is strict. 10 PM! This is NOT a secluded campground at all and trust me they will threaten to kick you out if someone complains. Would not recommend it if you have a loud group. Beach is directly across, to cross over is not a hassle stay close and hustle over you’ll be fine. Lots to do/see nearby. Mosquitos are ruthless, bring good spray. We took bug spray with more deet and it seemed to work. Overall not terrible just wasn’t a place for my loud group.
