As locals who appreciate Tennessee's diverse outdoor offerings, we recognize the value of a quiet escape amidst natural beauty, especially one that offers a welcoming environment for our military community. Arnold Air Force Base FamCamp is frequently described as an "absolute hidden gem," with "nice concrete pads with electric and water," and "very nice views of the lake, deer and wildlife all over."
Nestled alongside the picturesque Woods Reservoir, Arnold Air Force Base FamCamp offers a rustic lakeside camping experience that feels far removed from the hustle and bustle, even with its proximity to base facilities. Whether you're looking for a long-term stay, a quiet weekend retreat, or a convenient base to explore the surrounding area, this FamCamp provides a welcoming atmosphere. While it might be "kinda remote," as one reviewer noted, this very remoteness is a "plus if that is what you are looking for," ensuring a peaceful environment. We'll delve into what makes Arnold Air Force Base FamCamp a suitable and cherished destination for eligible Tennessee locals, from its beautiful location and essential services to its unique features and the benefits of its on-base setting.
Arnold Air Force Base FamCamp is located at 4176 Westover Rd, Tullahoma, TN 37388, USA. This address places it within the grounds of Arnold Air Force Base, providing a secure and serene environment. For eligible visitors in Tennessee, Tullahoma is a manageable drive from major cities like Nashville (70 miles) and Chattanooga (48 miles), as well as Huntsville, AL (50 miles). While the location within an active military base requires specific access (through the Arnold Village Security Gate or accompanied by an authorized person), this often contributes to the quiet and well-maintained nature of the FamCamp.
The campground itself is situated alongside Woods Reservoir, a beautiful 4,000-acre lake. This prime lakeside setting offers scenic views and direct access to water-based activities, making it highly desirable for those who enjoy boating, fishing, and kayaking. The "remote" feel, as noted by some, is often seen as a benefit, contributing to the quiet and peaceful ambiance that many campers seek. Signage within the base leading to the FamCamp might require some attention, so having directions handy is always a good idea, but once there, the concrete pads and lakeside setting make for a pleasant arrival.
- RV Sites with Electric & Water: Most RV sites are equipped with 30/50 AMP electrical service and water hookups.
- Concrete Pads: A significant highlight, many sites feature concrete pads, providing a stable and level surface for RVs and trailers, which is appreciated by campers despite some sites not being perfectly graded.
- Dump Station: While not all sites have individual sewer hookups, a "free to use dump buddy" (dump station) is conveniently located on-site for waste disposal.
- Tent Sites: There are 16 dedicated tent sites available, though these typically do not include water or electric hookups. Pets are generally not allowed in the tent area.
- Bathhouse: A well-kept bathhouse is available with plenty of hot water and good showerheads, ensuring a comfortable experience for campers.
- Laundry Facilities: A coin-operated laundry facility is on-site, providing a convenient and reasonably priced option for cleaning clothes during longer stays.
- Picnic Areas and Grills: Each RV site typically includes a picnic area, BBQ grill, and a fire ring for outdoor cooking and enjoyment.

- Golf Course: Access to the on-base golf course, Scenic View Golf Course.
- On-Site Dining: While not full-service restaurants, the base offers options like Hap's Eatery and Café 100 for quick meals.
- Outdoor Recreation (ODR) Office: The main office handles reservations and offers equipment rentals (canopies, tents, coolers, fishing rods, etc.), paintball, disc golf, and ITT (discount tickets).
- Exclusive Access and Security: Being a FamCamp on an active Air Force Base means access is restricted to authorized personnel (active duty, retired military, eligible veterans, DoD civilians, and base contractors). This provides a heightened sense of security, peace, and quiet compared to public campgrounds.
- Lakeside Beauty and Wildlife: The campground offers "very nice views of the lake" (Woods Reservoir) and is a haven for "deer and wildlife all over." This natural setting provides a serene backdrop for relaxation, birdwatching, fishing, and simply enjoying nature.
- Concrete Pads: The presence of concrete pads at most RV sites is a significant convenience, offering a clean, level, and stable surface, which is highly valued by RV campers.
- Quiet and Serene Atmosphere: Despite being on a base, the FamCamp is often described as "kinda remote" and overall "very quiet and serene," making it ideal for those seeking a tranquil escape from urban noise.
- Friendly Staff and Easy Check-in: Reviewers consistently mention that the staff is "very nice" and that "check-in was easy," contributing to a welcoming and hassle-free experience.
- Affordable Rates: FamCamps are typically known for offering budget-friendly rates for eligible users, making it an economical choice for extended stays or frequent visits.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Definitely have your jack pads ready. Most of the sites are not well graded and are not level. Could use additional signage to help navigate the campground. On the plus side, most of the sites have concrete pads. Check in was easy and they were very nice. Kinda remote and not much to do. Which may be a plus if that is what you are looking for. For those with access, commissary nearby is okay, smallish. Exchange is extremely small, I thought we walked into the Package Store. Laundry was good 1 wash and dryer, but reasonably priced. Bathhouse is well kept with plenty of hot water and good showerheads. Overall, didn't hate it, but didn't love it either.
April 25 · Jenifer FosnaughA absolute hidden gem. Nice concrete pads with electric and water. Has a free to use dump buddy. Very nice views of the lake, deer and wildlife all over. BX and Commissary about 5 miles from the FamCamp.
August 13 · Paul SchulzThis campground is immaculate with all the amenities that a camper needs! The grounds and sites are taken care of properly. The laundry works great! The staff are respectful, professional, and friendly. What May not be common knowledge is that there are mountain bike trails within a few hundred yards of the campground and they’re fantastic.
March 11 · T&BThis was our second stay at Arnold AFB FamCamp and we enjoyed it very much. The campground is wooded and the lake views are amazing. Cindy and Mike at Outdoor Rec were both very helpful and friendly.
October 15 · Marianne MashburnWhile only open to DOD employees this is a quiet, peaceful location with a lake view. It has a TINY beach that will fit a family of four comfortably in back of one of the rv spots. The camp stays quiet if you don't mind the loudspeaker blaring three to five times a day from the operations center. The bathrooms are clean and fully functional but there are water saver shower heads so the water pressure isn't all that great, just personal opinion. Water and electric hook ups are available, 30 and 50 amp, but no sewer connection. Blue boys are provided and a dumping station behind the bathrooms. The commissary and BX are pretty tiny and there is no gas station on base. There are plenty of sights to see, hiking areas and local color if you choose. Overall we are having a great experience here.
