It's a place where the wide-open spaces of the high desert meet the deep blue waters of one of Utah’s most iconic reservoirs. The scenery is spectacular, with rolling, sagebrush-covered hills dotted with juniper trees, leading down to the expansive shoreline.
The campground provides a mix of amenities that make it suitable for both RV and tent campers, without feeling overly developed. It’s known for its well-maintained sites and the general sense of peace and quiet. The campground’s design and layout are intended to maximize access and enjoyment of the lake, providing a natural setting that is both beautiful and functional.
While some campers might be drawn to free public land options in the area, Antelope Flat offers a few key advantages that justify the camping fees, such as a well-maintained environment, easy access to a boat ramp, and essential amenities like restrooms and running water. Antelope Flat Campground is situated near the town of Dutch John, Utah, and is part of the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area within the Ashley National Forest. The address is listed as Dutch John, UT 84023, USA. Access to the campground is via a well-maintained gravel road, approximately four miles long, that branches off the main highway. This drive, while unpaved, is generally manageable for most vehicles, including RVs and trailers, making the campground accessible to a wide variety of campers.
The location is ideal for anyone looking to spend time on the water. The campground is nestled directly on the shores of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, providing immediate access to boating, fishing, and swimming. The boat ramp is located on-site, a major convenience for boaters who don't want to travel far to launch their watercraft. While not every campsite has a direct view of the water, the walk to the shoreline is short and easy from any site. Antelope Flat Campground is worth choosing for a number of compelling reasons. Its primary draw is its prime location directly on the shores of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. For anyone who loves being on the water, this is the ideal spot. The on-site boat ramp is a massive convenience that distinguishes it from many other campgrounds in the region. You can wake up, have a quick breakfast, and be on the water in minutes, whether for fishing, a morning paddle, or some high-speed water sports.
While there are other camping options, including free public lands, Antelope Flat’s amenities and beautiful setting justify the camping fee. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great view but not much else. Considering all the free public land options around, it's hard to choose this campground, since there's a $10 fee just to get water from the water station. I guess the group sites have water included, so that may be what you want to do for your camping group. Otherwise you might consider boondocking on Antelope Flats, away from the campground, and save yourself the fees. If you have an RV, the water/dump station is the same $10 whether you get water (up to 100 gallons), dump your tanks or both. But there's no card reader or attendant - you'll need to pay using the payment envelopes provided.
June 27 · Thomas CAlthough the campground was closed there are some boondocking sites along the 4 mile gravel access road. A beautiful area; be sure to catch the sunrise and sunset.
October 27 · Tom JewellQuiet, remote, not much shade but a great location on the Utah end of the lake.
May 15 · Erik HelmsBeautiful and quiet, I had the place to myself with about 4 other campers. I get why people bring their boats here. It’s easy to overlook that the park is not very well maintained. Surprising for Utah.
June 19 · Bernie CrumpGOOD LOCATION! Horrible Camp Host! 10:00-10:30pm Camp Host runs his Generator. I went to ask him to turn it off and he told me..."I'm the Host, not a camper. Camp Rules don't apply to me. Some sites are reservable, others FCFS. Toilets exist, no soap, no towels,
