1899 Historic Landmark and Camping Introduce
For Arizonans seeking a camping destination that offers more than just a place to pitch a tent, the 1899 Historic Landmark and Camping in Morristown is an unparalleled choice. This is a location where history, recreation, and community all converge to create a truly unforgettable experience. It's not just a campground; it’s a beautifully restored piece of Arizona's past, as one reviewer noted, calling it "a labor of love." The dedication to preserving this historic site while also making it a welcoming and modern camping destination is a testament to the owner's passion and vision.
The unique blend of offerings here is what sets it apart from other campgrounds in the state. Where else can you find RV camping, a horse boarding stable, a wedding venue, and a gold mining company all in one place? This multi-faceted approach ensures that there's something for every type of visitor. Whether you're a history buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or a family looking for a fun and educational weekend, this place has it all. The positive review mentions the "ghost tours, panning for gold, special events, bbq area, fire pit coffee station," and even a "dog run," highlighting the extensive thought put into the guest experience.
The atmosphere is one of meticulous care and attention to detail. The owner, Lisa, has created a space that is "as clean as can be" and full of "so much pride and attention to detail." This level of quality and hospitality makes visitors feel truly valued and comfortable during their stay. The campground itself is perfectly laid out, with a “perfect” RV area that is easy to navigate and provides a pleasant stay. This focus on a high-quality experience is a key reason why visitors, like the one whose husband was bicycling the Southern Tier, would "love to visit again."
Beyond the camping, the historic and recreational activities are a major draw. The tours are a highlight, with one reviewer praising an "awesome guy" who could "tell you so much about all the things along the way." The chance to see an old underground mine, enjoy "beautiful views," and even spot wildlife like cattle and possibly wild donkeys adds an element of adventure and education to the trip. This combination of historical preservation and outdoor exploration is what makes 1899 Historic Landmark and Camping a unique and compelling destination for locals looking to learn more about the rich history of their state.
The fact that this establishment is still "just opening up" as one review suggests, means that it’s a new and exciting place with great potential. It is constantly evolving and expanding its offerings, making it a place you’ll want to visit again and again to see what new experiences are available. The positive feedback already received speaks volumes about the foundation of quality and hospitality that has been established from the very beginning. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1What an absolutely perfect stay! 1899 has everything you could want and more! Lisa has saved and restored this piece of historic significance beautifully. What a labor of love! The RV area was just perfect, everything as clean as can be and with so many offerings for new experiences! Ghost tours, panning for gold, special events, bbq area, fire pit coffee station, a dog run, horse stalls etc, she’s thought of it ALL! So much pride and attention to detail here! My husband is bicycling the southern tier and this was a perfect location on the route! Thanks Lisa and staff, we’d love to visit again!
November 08 · Mary NickelsThis place is just opening up so they need to update the picture, lol. It looks great and gives you a glimpse into earlier life. Many possibilities for rental use...small weddings, get aways, small retreat groups, etc.I highly recommend the Tour! Our tour guide was an awesome guy that could tell you so much about all the things along the way. Felt safe with him driving. You get to see an old mine, where there are old underground mines, beautiful views, even saw some cattle along the path/road. Didn't get to see the wild donkeys but I'm told they are all over.
April 29 · Missy SchottMy family and I enjoyed a very special occasion as we were their first RV campers! Lisa went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and could possibly want. While learning the age old art of panning for gold was our original intent, Lisa added to that a warm welcome, ATV excitement, gold mining history & under standing. We especially enjoyed our time with Tim and Matt as our intrepid gold mining experts! It was a wonderful experience!
April 23 · Evva JamisonVisit 6/29/2024. Small little museum on the side of the road. Free to browse inside and ghost stories were fun. Do not underestimate this place. Raejean and Steve were so gracious to host us. IF YOU'RE A ROCK HOUND? COME SEE THIS PLACE. They have real live gold panning (paydirt will cost you $30/bag, (but again, It's worth it, for the fun and memories). This place has RV parking (no power hookups tho) and a mining tour Lorri and I will definitely be coming back for! I cannot say enough positive things about this place... you'll just have to come visit for yourself.
July 01 · Frosty HardisonWe had no idea what to expect at our first Murder Mystery Dinner, but it completely exceeded our expectations! Lisa and the staff welcomed us with big smiles and treated us like old friends. Despite not having western wear since we were traveling and booked last minute, they had us covered with hats, jackets, bandanas, and fun props. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lively, and we laughed so much while meeting amazing people. It was an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend – 10 out of 10!
