Large families call for large family tents and if you need something extra roomy then Ozark Trail may have the answer. Their 10-person, 3-room tent is one of the roomiest you will find and with largely positive reviews it’s also one you can trust. I’ll be reviewing this 10-person tent today, looking at everything from ease of setup and comfort to durability and customer experience. Anyone in need of extra-large family camping tents will find a lot to love with this one but as with any tent, you can’t have a few pros without a few cons.

Size and comfort

Weight: 27.6 pounds
Color: Red/White
Center Height: 78 inches
Base Size: 20 x 10 feet

Comfort wise, this tent is in the middle ground, not especially comfortable or uncomfortable, unless you consider that the space it provides allows plenty of room for air mattresses. In that case, it’s very comfortable. Eight adults will be very comfortable in this though 10 might feel a little crowded. For most families, it will more than suffice. Its 20 x 10 feet dimensions with a square middle and trapezoid ends allow plenty of space to get 3 Queen sized air mattresses in along with baggage. With a center height of 78 inches, anyone below 6.5 feet will have no trouble walking around which is good considering the size of the thing.

If you’re in need of some privacy room dividers can put up to allow you some private space. As for ventilation, one main door, two side doors, and six windows ensure plenty of air circulation. These windows are fully screened to protect against bugs and can zipped closed for added privacy though of course, that will restrict airflow. Based on customer reviews this tent gets very positive marks for comfort, most family will have a hard time taking up all the space it provides

Weight

At 27.6 pounds this is no easy tent to carry around but for such a large one what else would you expect. It should go without saying that this is a tent only suited for the backyard and car camping.

Ease of Setup

Despite its size, Ozark has succeeded in creating a large and heavy tent that is surprisingly easy to set up, given some practice. The first time may be a little confusing as there are a lot of poles and going back and forth but once you’ve done it a few times you should have no trouble. For such a large tent, it helps a lot to have two people for setup or else it could take as much as 30 minutes on your own. One reviewer claimed to have gotten it up on their own in only 10 minutes, meaning it’s doable.

Dismantling

Disassembly, as with setup, takes a bit of practice but it can be done in 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure to practice setup and disassembly before you take it out for the first time. There’s little worse than puzzling over cryptic instructions while the first drops of a thunderstorm begin to fall.

 Durability and Quality

There are two pole types with this tent. Fiberglass poles for the main and side rooms and steel ones for holding the structure up. There have been people who’ve had the fiberglass poles break on them (a common problem with every tent) so be careful and pack some good duck-tape.

The floor is made of polyethylene to protect against water seepage but it’s far from perfect. Make sure to bring along a tarp for extra protection. Based on customers reviews this tent can hold up well to moderate rainfall and winds but it may not last in tougher conditions. The body and rainfly are made from Poly Taffeta and nylon which offers enough strength and protection against moderate weather but, as said, will run into difficulty in more extreme conditions.

Camping Situations for Best Use

As it weighs almost 28 pounds this is a tent reserved for backyard usage or car camping. Large family or groups of friends will love this tent for the space it provides. If your planning for a long stay on a camping trip the wide-open space, ability to put up privacy walls and great ventilation make it an excellent choice. As with any tent you should take the stated occupancy limit as optimistic. Eight adults and two kids would find things fairly tight but it is manageable.

Customer Experiences

Families have been extremely happy with this tent, space, and ventilation being its most favored aspects. Other things customers loved was its panoramic views from inside and the ability to wall off sections of the tent for a little privacy. Anyone with a large family will find a lot to love with this tent.

Downsides for some was the time-consuming assembly time and the quality of the fiberglass poles, with some reviewers suffering breakages. Overall though reviews with quite positive, earning it on average four stars out of five.

Manufacturer

Named after a hiking trail in the Missouri Ozarks, Ozarks Outdoor Supply produces a wide range of outdoor equipment such as kayaks, clothing, tents and outdoor equipment. Located in Little Rock, Arkansas, this small-time store punch’s a lot above its weight in the amount of merchandise they provide and the quality guarantees they give. Most of their products carry an extended warranty with a promise to replace any broken or damaged gear. For affordable equipment that will cover most outdoor needs their a well-trusted company.

Accessories to Consider

The tent comes with everything needed to set it up, metal stakes, poles, and rainfly. Mesh pockets inside provide easy places to store items and there’s even a zippered cavity near the front door for storing your shoes. If you wish though to protect your investment and get some improved comfort out of it there are a few extra items that are worth considering.

Coleman Tent Kit

Coleman Tent Kit If you’ve read my other reviews you’ll know I recommend this little kit each time but that is because it is so damn useful. Given that this tent does come with steel pegs it always helps to have a few spares. The Coleman Tent kit comes with four steel pegs that can be easily hammered into place with the rubber mallet that comes with the kit. A hook allows you to pull them out again with minimal effort. Not forgetting the hand-sized brush that will help keep your tent clean and presentable. If you camp often this kit should be considered essential.

10’ x 20’ Poly Tarp

10’ x 20’ Poly Tarp     10’ x 20’ Poly Tarp 2

A simple piece of kit but it can make a big difference on a camping trip, be it in the wild or just the backyard. However strong a tent might be there’s always a chance of an unnoticed branch or rock on the campsite causing a tear that will see water coming in very fast. Protect your investment with this 10’ x 20’ Poly Tarp. It will also keep your tent cleaner so it’s easier to pack and maintain.

Coleman Pack-Away 4-in-1 Table

Can’t set up a barbeque without a table. With so much space and since this is a tent only good for car camping, it should be little trouble bringing along some tables. The Coleman Pack-Away 4-in-1 Table can be folded up easily for transportation and provide a convenient place for storage. The two tables can be placed together or split apart, making them highly adaptable.

It holds up to moderate weather conditions and can be relied on to keep you dry and comfortable for extended camping trips.
